Lyft’s engineering team is growing rapidly, and we are looking for engineering managers to help us scale. Our engineers are smart, flexible, and love solving difficult challenges. They look to their managers for organizational transparency, career development, coaching, and honest feedback. They move fast and ship code to production continuously, relying on their leadership to increase productivity by removing obstacles and keeping processes lean. Our engineering managers are people with varying technical backgrounds and interests -- some are involved in the technical details of their team and others provide general technical direction and oversight. As managers, our job is to keep teams efficient and execute the right goals. We build teams that are inclusive, helpful, and have a strong sense of ownership for the things they build.

Within the Customer's organization, we put our Drivers and Riders at the forefront of everything we do. In order to fulfill our customer obsession we are looking for the leader who can set our Quality Assurance and Test Automation strategies and build and support the teams to achieve them. You will work in partnership with developers, designers, product managers, and other engineering managers to establish processes and best practices that ensure we’re shipping high quality products that serve our customers.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage a growing team of Quality Assurance Engineers and Software Engineers in Test who are responsible for ensuring quality across our customer-facing products
  • Own the long term vision and roadmap for how Quality works within the Customers organization. Establish best practices among Engineering, Product, and Design teams to work collaboratively towards these goals.
  • Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team members, including other managers and senior individual contributors. Help develop their careers and assign them to projects tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals.
  • Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in the team’s practices and processes
  • Be a strong voice across all of Lyft Engineering constantly uplifting engineering culture and improving engineering processes of the larger organization
  • Operate effectively and autonomously across multiple teams, and navigate ambiguity with only high level direction
  • Grow the team by working with recruiting to identify and hire excellent and diverse engineering and leadership talent
Experience:
  • Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or related field, or at least 8 years of industry experience building and testing software
  • 6+ years of people management experience. Track record of building teams, growing the next set of leaders, and managing managers
  • Hands-on experience developing and executing manual test plans for web and mobile applications, as well as automating tests on these platforms
  • Openness to new or different ideas and ability to evaluate multiple approaches and choose the best one based on fundamental qualities, supporting data, and business goals
  • Ability to communicate technical problems and solutions at all levels from engineers to top leadership

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule if an established Lyft Location is available to the region — Hybrid Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.
