Senior Instrumentation Engineer – Propulsion

Your Team:

At Lilium, we're pioneering the future of aviation with our cutting-edge electric aircraft. As a Senior Engineer in the Instrumentation team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of our innovative technology. Our Laboratory Test & Experimental organization is responsible for component, system, and aircraft level tests, covering propulsion, batteries, structures, and electronics.

We are looking for a driven individual to join the instrumentation team and lead the development and management of Propulsion Units instrumentation. The instrumented Propulsion units will then be tested on Lilium's test facilities as well as on the aircraft during flight test.

Your Role:

As a Senior Engineer in the Instrumentation team, you will be responsible for:

Instrumentation Development and Delivery:

  • Develop instrumentation solutions for Lilium’s Propulsion Units based on measurement requests.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage delivery of special solutions including pressure rakes, tip timing, and telemetry in-house or with suppliers.
  • Collaborate closely with the design team developing the Propulsion Unit test vehicle.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical & electrical design, and technician teams.
  • Support the instrumentation application during the assembly process of the Unit Under Test.
  • Create and review engineering documentation for instrumentation.
  • Ensure on time, on quality, and on cost delivery of instrumentation for a given unit under test.
  • Take ownership of multiple instrumentation assets and ensure they are always ready for testing, including configuration and calibration.
  • Support the test engineer with the test setup and commissioning for each test campaign.

Support and Best Practices:

  • Support the development and continuous evolvement of new measurement tools, techniques and standard methods.
  • Support resource and workload planning and coordinate with interfacing teams.
  • Advise the test engineering and design teams on best practices.
  • Stay updated on new developments in testing and instrumentation and share knowledge with your peers by capturing Lessons Learnt.
  • Work on ad-hoc projects and tasks as needed.

Your profile:

  • University degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field (M.Sc/M.Eng preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in instrumentation (aerospace propulsion industry preferred).
  • Good knowledge and experience in measurement technology, uncertainty evaluation, and calibration.
  • Good knowledge of aerospace testing methodology.
  • Well-founded understanding of the fundamentals of turbomachinery.
  • Experience with instrumentation of electrical machines is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in PLM and CAD systems, preferably Siemens Teamcenter and NX.
  • Proficiency in technical writing and documentation.
