We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced payment-related risk professional to join our team as the Senior Manager, Risk Policy, Procedure and Operations at Airbnb. In this role, you will play a crucial role in managing and implementing robust policies and operational processes to mitigate payment-related risks and ensure the smooth functioning of our payment operations.

Within this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the development and execution of comprehensive risk management strategies. Your expertise in payment systems and operational efficiency will be instrumental in safeguarding Airbnb's payment processes against various risks, managing down losses while preserving a best-in-class customer experience. You will be responsible for maintaining effective policies and procedures. Your keen attention to detail and strong analytical skills will enable you to identify areas for improvement and implement streamlined processes that enhance efficiency and accuracy. You and your team will be responsible for balancing the management of losses with revenue enablement and supporting the business in meeting its strategic objectives. 

As a leader in the Payments team, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders, including Trust, Product, Legal, Compliance, Finance, and Engineering, to ensure alignment and adherence to industry best practices and regulatory requirements. Your ability to communicate effectively and influence key decision-makers will be essential in driving the adoption of new policies and procedures across the organization.

A Typical Day

  • Develop and implement the risk policy and procedures inline with fraud loss and risk targets for the business across pay in (e.g., chargebacks) and pay out (e.g., collusion)
  • Monitor payment transactions for suspicious activities and potential fraud. Implement fraud detection algorithms and tools to identify fraudulent patterns and investigate suspicious transactions across both guests and hosts. 
  • Manage a team that handles and resolve payment disputes and chargebacks, working with customers and financial institutions to resolve issuers. Ensure fair and timely resolution of disputes while minimizing financial losses.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Trust, Product, Technology, Finance, and Legal, to enhance payment risk management processes and systems.
  • Provide regular reports to senior management on performance and opportunities for ongoing enhancements. 
  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive fraud prevention strategy, including the identification and mitigation of emerging fraud trends and threats.
  • Collaborate with internal audit teams to ensure effective monitoring and testing of payment controls and processes.
  • Drive the development and implementation of KPIs and metrics to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of payment risk management.
  • Stay informed about global industry requirements and network standards. 
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers, ensuring their compliance with contractual obligations and performance expectations.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and audits of payment processes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.

Your Expertise

  • 10+ years of experience in payment operations and risk management, with at least 3+ years in a leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of payment systems, risk management practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing operational policies and risk management strategies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on mentorship and development.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with diverse teams, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Proficiency in relevant technological tools and software used in payment risk management. 
  • Proven experience in managing payment risk and operations in a high-volume, global environment. Marketplace experience is a plus. 
  • Strong knowledge of industry-leading payment platforms, systems, and technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex payment concepts and strategies to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Your Location

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. While the position is Remote Eligible, you must live in a state where Airbnb Payments, Inc. (a subsidiary of Airbnb, Inc.) is a registered entity. How We'll Take Care of You:

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.  

Pay Range$192,000—$240,000 USD
