The Fintech Risk team at Toast is responsible for driving risk-informed growth for the rapidly expanding Toast Fintech line of business. Whether it is enhancing our strategy and processes, sharpening our policies or identifying new products for our merchants, the risk team is an integral part of charting the path for the business. 

The Sr. Manager, Credit Risk, is a high-profile role that will serve as the leader for our Credit Risk functions in Bangalore, mentoring and managing a growing and hungry team of analysts who conduct portfolio management, acquisition and CECL analysis.  We are looking for a professional that is passionate about building risk-right products and excited to evangelize what it means to work in Credit Risk at Toast.  The Sr. Manager, Credit Risk, will work with a broad cross-functional team to lead the development and execution of portfolio risk strategies for Toast's lending portfolio. This pivotal role will require intellectual curiosity and analytical acumen to enhance our understanding of risk, deliver new visualizations and reporting to help inform risk-right growth decisions and foster innovation in how Toast’s lending business goes to market. 

About this roll* (Responsibilities) 

  • Portfolio Risk Strategy: Define, implement, and continuously improve the portfolio risk management strategy, ensuring alignment with company appetite
  • Risk Reporting and Monitoring: Develop and maintain a comprehensive and timely reporting framework to provide risk visibility to management, ensuring that risk and return are optimized and in line with company goals
  • Emerging Risk Identification and Mitigation: Proactively identify emerging risks and propose data-driven mitigation solutions to minimize potential losses and optimize returns.
  • CECL Reporting: Oversee the monthly CECL calculations and reporting process, collaborating closely with accounting and strategic finance teams to ensure the robustness of methodology and accuracy of loss reserve calculations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster strong partnerships with Product Management, Operations, Engineering, Data Science, Accounting, and Strategic Finance teams, driving alignment and facilitating data-driven decision-making.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and coach a team of high-performing credit risk analysts, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Risk Culture Advocacy: Promote a culture of risk awareness and excellence within the broader Fintech Risk team in India, providing leadership presence and guidance.
  • Policy Management: Maintain and update credit risk policy documents and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

  • 8-10 years of experience in consumer or small business lending in a quantitative risk strategy role, preferably in Fintech
  • At least 3 years of experience in managing a team
  • Quantitative degree (Mathematics/Statistics/Economics/Operations Research) preferred, Masters Degree or MBA a plus
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python/R, with experience in data visualization tools such as Hex/ Tableau/Looker/Sigma
  • Strong understanding of Corporate Finance and US GAAP Accounting principles, including CECL
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • An inquisitive nature, with a passion for exploring variances, understanding root causes, and driving data-driven decision-making
  • Proven ability to navigate a cross-functional, non-hierarchical environment, fostering collaboration and driving alignment across teams

Work Timings: 1 PM - 10 PM ISTWorking Mode: Twice a week to office
