Information Security is a top business imperative at Okta. In addition to driving security in our Corporate environment and Okta service, the Security team is deeply entrenched in the Okta business. As such, we contribute to product roadmaps, branding, research and other strategic aspects of our operations. We work across multiple functions, business partners and the research community. We are an engineering-focused team that seeks to stay on the cutting edge of security technology and the threat landscape.

The Identity Defence Operations (IDO) team is seeking an experienced detection and response leader to aid us in supporting our customers to defend against cyber attacks.

The Role

You will build and operate a regional team responsible for helping Okta defend our customer’s against cyber attacks at a global level. With identity based attacks soaring, this is a role where you can make a huge difference to the security of millions of users across the globe. Your core responsibilities would include:

  • Provide technical leadership and contribute to the investigation and remediation of customer security incidents.
  • Researching common attacks against Okta customers, analyzing configuration data to identify misconfigurations that could contribute to successful compromises and developing best practices to be communicated via direct customer communications, in-product notifications, public articles, and whitepapers.
  • Development of dashboards and analysis automation to provide customer facing teams with greater visibility of customers current security posture. 
  • Assisting with the evaluation of existing product security features to determine whether they achieve effective security outcomes to defend our customers against cyber attack.
  • Recommend new product features, fixes, etc to address emerging threats based on the latest customer incidents.
  • Mentor and coach employees, providing advice for performance improvements and career guidance.
  • Participate in planning and prioritizing the team’s work tasks.
  • Work with various teams in Security as well as across Okta to achieve shared outcomes. Your main partnerships will be with the following functions: Customer Trust, Threat Research, Regional CSO, Product and Engineering, Legal, Customer Success. 
What does it take?

If you don’t have a degree, you have equivalent experience that’s given you the foundational knowledge to understand complex computing environments.

You’re a leader. People want to work with you. You know what it takes to build a world-class capability to support our customers during a time of crisis. Your experience probably includes:

  • Leading, or contributing to, technology focused teams large or small.
  • Mentoring staff and providing development opportunities to build high performing teams.
  • Learning the ins and outs of new products: you will be required to quickly become proficient in Okta’s offerings.
  • Operating as, or providing support to, the incident commander or technical lead during cyber security incidents.
  • Analyzing large amounts of data for the purpose of developing advanced detection capabilities.

Ideally you also have experience in several of the following areas:

  • Working collaboratively within product and/or enterprise project teams, assisting to deliver large and complex technology solutions.
  • Working with customer facing functions to quickly address security related escalations requiring deep technical understanding of the product.
