This position is for a senior manager for Ripple’s central Data Platform. This team implements the data infrastructure for analytics, machine learning and powering various business functions with data at Ripple. Your team owns and solves problems related to scalable data ingestion, creation of a reliable , high quality data warehouse and cataloging system and deep observability within all parts of the data stack. You are experienced in hiring, coaching and growing a strong team of software engineers, engineering and technical program managers with a data engineering background. You are curious about the bottlenecks and failure modes of a system and look for  opportunities to continually improve cost/performance characteristics. You are hands-on when needed in driving, reviewing and refining key technical architecture decisions, and ensuring the right tradeoffs are made to deliver high -quality results and deliver high, measurable customer value. You value operational excellence and cost efficiency highly and ensure adequate mechanisms to raise standards on these aspects. You lead from the front and work effectively across functions and teams, including data science, product, application engineering, compliance, finance and others. Your passion for good engineering and growing great teams is complemented by strong instincts to deliver customer value.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Provide technical leadership for multiple Data Platform initiatives and continually measure and improve the user experience with a metrics-first mindset
  • Drive the technical and strategic vision for our Data infrastructure to meet current and future needs for scale and interoperability.
  • Lead and manage one or more teams of engineers. Help the team make key technical decisions, unblock the team, and guide the team on execution. 
  • Empower and delegating while continually being a force for continual progress and value delivery.
  • Own and deliver your roadmap while driving technical and operational excellence
  • Be a program owner, responsible for business outcomes and technological innovation
  • Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team
  • Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in the team’s inventions and processes so we can rapidly deliver innovations for customers
  • Build relationships with your internal customers and partners and leverage those to drive the right initiatives for the team

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Degree in computer science or other quantitative field
  • 15+ years of experience in software development
  • 8+ years of experience managing engineering teams
  • Prior experience as an engineer building and shipping large scale data systems
  • Track record of building, growing, and leading high performing engineering teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through experience working with technical and non-technical teams
  • Familiarity with platforms like Databricks, Bigquery, Redshift, Athena or Presto are ideal
  • Good grasp of cloud services and technologies   
  • High autonomy, ownership and responsibility.
  • Track record of recruiting and mentoring world-class teams
For positions that will be based in CA, the annual salary range for this position is below. Actual salaries may vary based on numerous factors including, among other things, an individual applicant’s experience and qualifications for the position. This range does not include equity or additional compensation, such as bonuses or commissions. CA Annual Base Salary Range$216,000—$270,000 USD
