The ChallengeAs the Design System Manager, you will lead, evolve, and scale our enterprise design system—driving cross-product consistency, accessibility, quality, and delivery efficiency. You will partner closely with UX, Product, and Engineering leaders to create a unified, flexible, and future-ready design language that accelerates product development. You will coach a team of systems-focused designers and engineers, shape contribution models, govern component quality, and ensure the design system is a strategic asset supporting user experience outcomes across our SaaS ecosystem.
You will champion system adoption, advance accessibility and privacybydesign standards, integrate AI-assisted workflows, and maintain strong alignment with product roadmaps, design operations, and platform architecture.
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead and mentor a team of design system designers and/or UI engineers, including 1:1s, growth plans, performance development, and upskilling in systems thinking.
- Define and evolve the longterm strategy, governance model, and roadmap for the design system—aligned with product vision, brand standards, technical architecture, and UX quality goals.
- Partner with UX leaders to ensure system adoption, consistency, and coverage across product areas, mapping where the system must scale to support enterprise needs.
- Stay current on emerging design system frameworks, Figma platform innovations, design tokens, component architecture, and AIpowered workflows.
- Recruit, interview, and onboard talent specializing in systems design, accessibility, and UI engineering.
Design System Execution & Quality
- Drive creation and maintenance of scalable components, patterns, tokens, guidelines, and documentation grounded in research, accessibility, and content strategy.
- Establish and enforce high standards for accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA), privacybydesign, and inclusive design—ensuring all components meet compliance requirements.
- Integrate AI-assisted tooling for documentation generation, component audits, visual QA, token updates, and contribution workflows.
- Operate a clear governance and contribution model that supports intake, prioritization, component lifecycle, versioning, and cross-team collaboration.
- Conduct independent discovery work to identify system gaps, future needs, and areas of friction across product teams.
- Partner with user research and analytics teams to validate system effectiveness, adoption, and usability of shared components.
CrossFunctional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product Managers, Engineering leads, Accessibility/Privacy teams, Support, and GTM partners to ensure the system accelerates delivery and improves quality.
- Collaborate with engineering platform teams to maintain code parity, ensure reliable component implementation, and manage documentation infrastructure.
- Synthesize customer insights, product usage data, and support trends to prioritize system improvements and new patterns.
- Support onboarding of product teams to the design system, facilitating training, office hours, and component adoption recommendations.
- Clearly communicate system decisions, rationale, metrics, and roadmap statuses to stakeholders and leadership.
Operational Excellence
- Own the design system roadmap, defining priorities, capacity, and measurable success criteria (adoption, efficiency gains, reduction in UI defects, WCAG compliance).
- Measure system success post-launch with dashboards, PSAT/CSAT trends, and cross-team analytics.
- Lead recurring sessions focused on component audits, accessibility reviews, pattern discussions, documentation updates, and bestpractice sharing.
- Enhance operational efficiency through AI-enabled documentation, token automation, spec generation, and prototyping workflows.
- Support capacity planning, scaling processes, and cross-team alignment needed to support multiproduct system adoption.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience building or governing a multiplatform design system (web, mobile, responsive, native frameworks).
- Background in consent/privacy UX, governance tooling, or data-centric product experiences.
- Experience integrating AI into system workflows (token generation, documentation, code scaffolding, audit automation).
- Experience leading or collaborating with distributed or multiregion teams.
For California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, and Washington-based candidates: the annual base pay range for this role is listed below. Within this range, individual pay is determined by several factors, including location, job-related skills, work experience, and relevant education and/or training. This role may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, equity, and/or commissions, as well as benefits.
