Order to Cash Senior Accountant

On-site | Sofia, Bulgaria

At SumUp, we believe in the everyday hero — the small business owner. Our mission is to empower them with simple, fair, and accessible financial solutions so they can thrive. Today, we support 4+ million merchants in over 30 countries, and we’re just getting started.

To support our continued growth and increasing complexity across Enterprise, Cooperation, and Marketplace sales, we’re looking for an Order to Cash Senior Accountant to join our Finance team in Sofia. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate billing, revenue recognition, and accounts receivable management across some of SumUp’s most impactful and fast-evolving business lines.

What You’ll Be Doing

As part of our Order to Cash (O2C) Europe team, you’ll take ownership of several high-impact, hands-on accounting workstreams and act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.

Your responsibilities will include:

Order to Cash & Revenue Accounting

  • Analyse sales orders and ensure timely, accurate invoicing across multiple channels

  • Post and allocate customer payments, perform customer account reconciliations, and resolve discrepancies

  • Ensure proper revenue recognition across periods, products, and legal entities in line with accounting standards and internal controls

  • Support month-end close activities, including impairment calculations and ageing analysis

Marketplaces, Enterprise & Cooperation Sales

  • Own accounting for Marketplace sales (Amazon, eBay, OnBuy, and new marketplaces launching in 2026), including reconciliations, settlements, AR/AP netting, and discrepancy investigation

  • Act as a single point of contact for Enterprise & Cooperation hardware sales, coordinating invoicing, payment follow-up, and revenue recognition

  • Calculate and book price protection credits and device discounts, ensuring compliance with partner agreements and accurate margin reporting

  • Oversee RMA (returns) processes across retailers, partners, Enterprise customers, and marketplaces, including credit memo logic and control checks

Collaboration & Process Improvement

  • Work closely with Sales (BDMs, KAMs), PayOps, Credit Management, Billing & Subscription teams, and ERP colleagues

  • Proactively identify gaps, risks, or inefficiencies in existing processes and propose practical improvements

  • Support the team during ongoing automation initiatives and future marketplace integrations

  • Share knowledge and support junior team members when needed

You’ll Be a Great Fit If You:

  • Experience: 4–5+ years of hands-on accounting experience, ideally in Order to Cash or Accounts Receivable, within a multinational or shared services environment.

  • Accounting Expertise: Solid experience handling moderately complex accounting topics, including calculating, posting, and reconciling journal entries, balance sheet accounts, and performing trend and variance analysis.

  • Standards Knowledge: Practical, real-world experience applying IFRS and/or GAAP, with a strong understanding of IFRS revenue recognition.

  • Systems & Tools: Advanced Excel skills (e.g. PowerQuery, advanced formulas; macros are a plus) and experience working with SAP (S/4HANA preferred).

  • Transactional & VAT Knowledge: Comfortable managing high-volume, automated transactional data and familiar with European VAT mechanisms.

  • Analytical & Improvement Mindset: Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify root causes of discrepancies and drive process improvements or automation initiatives.

  • Education: Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. ACCA/CIMA qualification or progress toward certification is a strong advantage.

You Are Someone Who:

  • Is proactive, self-driven, and solution-oriented

  • Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

  • Enjoys collaborating across teams and taking ownership end-to-end

  • Is curious, eager to learn, and continuously looks for ways to improve how things work
