As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team, you will help shape the company’s strategy on corporate risk management and risk transfer via insurance. You will manage and evolve the corporate risk policy in a variety of areas.
The Difference You Will Make:
As the Senior Principal, Corporate Risk for a pioneer in the P2P (peer-to-peer) industry, you’ll specialize in designing and enhancing policies for tracking, managing, and retiring risks across a variety of programs. You will do this by identifying, measuring, and mitigating risk in the organization, developing impactful strategies, and implementing risk solutions to optimize business operations. In addition to interacting with brokers, Third Party Administrators (TPAs), insurance carriers and other vendors, you will also work with key suppliers, internal stakeholders, and external partners as needed.
A Typical Day:
- Manage and find opportunities to improve the corporate risk management process for Airbnb, including analyses of all expected and potential financial impacts
- Develop, recommend, and aid in implementing risk finance strategy with an aim to reduce overall cost of risk and volatility
- Be a thought leader in ways the company can optimize the operations of its insurance captive by identifying appropriate risks to transfer, determining optimal levels of reinsurance and maintaining appropriate controls around all activities
- In partnership with the Director of Insurance Operations (AirCover), work with brokers and insurance underwriters to negotiate favorable insurance terms and secure the broadest coverage
- Oversee and manage the risk financing and risk transfer program for all lines of risk including but not limited to: Property & Casualty, Financial Lines, Professional Liability, and Cyber
- Coordinate and maintain strong relationships with key external partners including insurance brokers, insurance carriers, TPAs, and other vendors. Set clear targets and objectives, and establish service KPIs with all insurance partners
- Stay updated on emerging risks and trends in the insurance industry and make recommendations for adjustments to the risk management strategy accordingly
- Design, implement and oversee management of alternative insurance programs as needed, including placement of surety bonds
- Conduct periodic claims reviews, develop claim metrics, analyze large claims and settlement values, work closely with loss adjuster, insurers and legal team on claim strategy, and monitor all subrogation and recoveries
- Act as an expert business partner to cross functional partners, supporting the business requirements related to contract review and negotiation, evidence of coverage, claims handling and evolving risks
- Oversee and manage corporate insurance budget and payables, ensuring transparency with key stakeholders and timely, accurate handling of all financial transactions related to the corporate insurance portfolio
Your Expertise:
- Bachelor's degree in risk management, insurance or finance required, MBA preferred
- 10+ years risk experience in a publicly traded corporation, an insurance company, or in a consulting role focused on risk management, ideally working within the technology or digital economy industry
- Possess a track record of success in creatively leveraging captive insurance programs to optimize financial outcomes
- Experience with second party and third party audits, claims processing and a comprehensive understanding of underwriting cyber, financial and property & casualty coverages
- Can adapt well to change, ability to develop relationships and influence outcomes, and have a strategic views
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Detail-oriented and have the ability to be a “hands on” manager of multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong negotiation and communication skills

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
