The role

Sitting within our wider Operations Group, this role is part of the Central Programs team. This team leads and delivers large, strategic programs across the business. Collaborating closely with all of GDM’s functions , Central Programs has a unique central viewpoint of the business’ current and future needs with its core purpose to successfully deliver our most strategic and impactful initiatives, enabling Google DeepMind to grow, thrive and accelerate towards the mission in the most effective way possible!In this role you will continually move across a variety of high priority, company-wide programs and initiatives to scope and deliver against critical and continually evolving deliverables and set programs up for long term success. Working with partners across all teams, you'll build direction and structure, craft creative solutions and simplify complexity.This role requires someone who is innovative and collaborative in their approach to problem solving. It’s crucial you have significant experience leading and managing large-scale programs, excellent judgement and communication skills and a passion for continuous learning.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead large-scale programs to enable rapid progress in highly complex areas, leveraging and developing technical domain understanding
  • Drive end-to-end program design, planning and delivery, using your knowledge of program methodologies including tools and techniques such as critical path management, program planning, dependency tracking, program reporting and decision making
  • Partner with multiple senior stakeholders across the organisation, adapting your approach accordingly. Share critical information with key decision makers and influence positive outcomes
  • Partner with leaders, researchers, engineers and wider teams to organise and optimise work into clear objectives, handle risks, anticipate issues and offer creative solutions
  • Navigate an ambiguous and changeable environment to drive and track progress, maintain up to date information and relevant program documentation, anticipate and propose solutions to issues and risks
  • See and progress opportunities to improve ways of working, tools or processes
  • Lead and collaborate with other program managers and provide coaching for individuals to overcome challenges and ensure the conditions are right to enable teams to produce pioneering and mission focused work
  • Support and drive engagement across the team by building relationships, sharing constructive feedback, challenging established ways of thinking and inspiring them to achieve their full potential
  • Evaluate the success of programs against their aims, goals and objectives, and share lessons and insight across the wider business
About you

In order to set you up for success as a Senior Program Manager at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:

  • Extensive knowledge, expertise and experience in large-scale program management, with the proven skill to navigate through ambiguity and adjust and adapt program strategies as conditions change
  • Experience in managing large complex programs and organisational change, solving challenges and implementing sustainable solutions
  • Extensive experience partnering with senior stakeholders, adapting approach to stakeholder preferences and navigating conflicting priorities
  • Strong communicator, able to develop meaningful relationships with key partners and use these to influence action and outcomes
  • Experience in leading individuals from a diverse set of backgrounds in an ambitious environment
  • Experience supporting teams in fast-paced and constantly evolving environments. Preferred experience in a Research, Product or Tech environment, working with researchers and engineers
  • Naturally curious and enjoy working across a large range of different subjects with ease, quickly gaining the knowledge you need to be effective
  • Passionate about our mission, proactive about learning and acquiring knowledge to enhance your experience

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $165,000 - $261,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process
