Senior Retail Designer, Home Renovation

Overview:As a Renovation Designer, you’ll be at the forefront of transforming customer visions into reality, offering expert guidance through every step of their home renovation journey. From creating mood boards and floor plans to the management of end-to-end renovation projects, you will inspire confidence and creativity in DIY homeowners and general contractors alike. You will build and use a deep knowledge of Wayfair's extensive renovation product offerings— ranging from tile, flooring, kitchen, bath solutions and more to provide personalized recommendations that align with customer preferences, budgets, and timelines. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, proactive sales environment, leveraging design expertise, technical product knowledge, and sales acumen to build lasting customer relationships and first-in-class design experiences.

 

 

What Does A Renovation Designer Do?

  • Engage and Inspire Customers: Provide authentic, friendly customer experiences by understanding renovation needs, style, and customer budgets by conducting in-store, in-home, and virtual consultations.
  • Guide Projects from Start to Finish: Manage end-to-end renovation projects for DIY customers and contractors, including product selection, mood boards, floor plans, and purchasing assistance.
  • Educate on Renovation Solutions: Leverage expertise to introduce customers to Wayfair's wide range of home renovation products, such as tile, flooring, kitchen, bath, and plumbing, while offering tailored design recommendations.
  • Utilize Design and Sales Tools: Apply sales analytics, design software, and technical knowledge to create space plans, 2D/3D room views, and compelling presentations that drive store growth and profitability.
  • Adapt to Dynamic Environments: Thrive in a fast-paced setting with rapidly changing products, promotions, and customer needs, maintaining a high level of focus and energy.
  • Always Be Selling (ABS): You will pro-actively see each customer interaction as an opportunity to generate new design leads, build customer rapport, and generate new sales.
  • Contribute to Team Success: Support store operations through floor sets, replenishments, and substitutions while sharing innovative ideas to enhance team performance.

 

What are the Requirements?

  • Design Experience: 3+ years of experience in kitchen, bath, or other renovation categories, with a strong understanding of design principles such as spatial planning, product selection, and current trends.
  • Sales Experience: Proven ability to achieve and exceed sales goals. Experience as a leader or trainer in a retail environment is preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment and quickly learn necessary software tools. Previous experience using design and project management tools is required.
  • Renovation Product Knowledge: Expertise in a wide range of renovation product categories, paired with a passion for helping customers bring their visions to life.
  • Team Collaboration: Demonstrated success working in a team sales environment, with a strong drive to support and elevate the success of those around you.
  • Organizational and Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional organization, self-motivation, communication, and relationship management abilities.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet customer and business needs.
  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree or college diploma equivalent is preferred.
  • Leadership: Prior experience as a leader or trainer in a retail environment is preferred.
  • Certification: Certificates from any of the following are also preferred in consideration:
    • National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA)
    • National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)
    • National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI)
    • The Kitchen and Bath Design Institute (KBDI)

    • Frequent movement: Standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms
    • Occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, and crawling
    • Frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching
    • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs regularly, frequently, or occasionally
    • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Working Environment
    • Exposure to varying temperature conditions
    • Occasional noise and physical activity related to the job
    • Minimal hazards in the work environment
