The roleAre you ready to shape the future of AI in Health and Wellbeing? We’re seeking an exceptional Software Engineer to join our mission-driven team developing next-generation agentic systems and capabilities. This role focuses on designing, prototyping, and expanding the cutting-edge Astra Agent, leveraging Gemini and Astra as foundational technologies while enhancing them with advanced modeling approaches, planning and reasoning capabilities, multi-agent architectures, memory integration, and other unique features.
As part of this high-impact team, you’ll have the opportunity to drive system architecture, lead technical innovation, and bring visionary AI capabilities to life to improve human flourishing through fast prototyping and scalable product solutions.
Key responsibilitiesThis role will be central in building a Health Agent. In this role you will:
- Core Development: Contribute to the Astra codebase, enhancing agent functionalities like prompting, multi-agent architecture, tool integration, memory-integration, and backend processes.
- Model Integration: Seamlessly incorporate new models and cutting-edge AI techniques to enhance the agent’s capabilities.
- Evaluation Design: Create comprehensive evaluation strategies, from dataset development to component-level testing and end-to-end agent performance assessments.
- High-Impact Prototyping: Deliver polished demos and prototypes for flagship Google events such as IO, The Check-Up, and Made By Google.
- Scaling Innovation: Guide the prototype through team testing, dogfooding, and trusted tester programs, scaling features into robust solutions, including internal and external releases.
You’re a hands-on engineer with a passion for solving complex problems, blending fast prototyping with production-grade engineering. You excel in ambiguous environments, transforming high-level goals into iterative, demonstrable outcomes, through large collaborative efforts.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience:
- Bachelor’s or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years in software development, with expertise in data structures and algorithms.
- Proven ability to integrate AI solutions into real-world products.
- Python proficiency, especially for machine learning applications ideally within the Google ecosystem.
- Technical Expertise:
- Designing complex software systems with thoughtful trade-offs.
- Writing high-quality, well-tested, and maintainable code.
- Leading in cross-functional, multi-disciplinary environments.
- Preferred Skills:
- Experience developing AI Agent capabilities (e.g., Tools, Memory, Planning).
- Familiarity with generative AI technologies and industry-standard APIs.
- Experience in Health or Medical domains.
- Open source contributions on platforms like GitHub.
- Python readability.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $189,000 - $300,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
