Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS) is the implementation of a new Target Operating Model for the electricity market where site-specific, half-hourly energy consumption is recorded for all metering points.
This role in a nutshell:
Working the Operations domain in OVO, collaborating with the Head of Engineering. The Operations team looks after OVO's front and back-office systems, ranging from the contact centre to industry operations.
You’ll be primarily focused on the well established Market-wide Half Hourly Settlement (MHHS) programme, and seeing it through its future phases.
Your key outcomes will be:
Engineering delivery
- Lead multiple engineering teams to build solutions that meet project requirements and timelines
- Be accountable for engineering performance and quality
Non-functional requirements
- Ensuring compliance with industry defined standards
- Managing end-to-end traceability across multiple OVO domains and their third parties, handling dependencies and sequencing
- Execution of non-functional testing and production of evidence
Migration - migrate OVO’s customers on to the MHHS system
- Lead the design and implementation of a migration engine
- Measure and ensure migration performance
Testing
- Collaborating closely with OVO’s Test Team on the execution of functional and non-functional testing, and the production and collation of evidence
- Managing defect resolution and mitigation
Data Model
- Own the MHHS data model, collaborating with OVO’s data team and across engineering domains
- Ensure data is used appropriately and securely across OVO, complying with regulations and best practices
Security
- Leading on the security assessment for MHHS, adhering to security requirements and handling data protection impact assessments
- Ensuring the reliability and integrity of systems in scope for MHHS
- Handling security defects to resolution or sufficient mitigation according to programme standards
Leadership
- Bring forward and influence technical decision making within the programme leadership team
- Unblock technical impediments on the programme and own progress of technical workstreams
Methodologies
- Work with Delivery to drive continued adoption of Agile methodologies
- Apply modern engineering practices to programme change and release requirements
- Work with the Service Operations team to ensure high quality incident and problem management processes are in place across teams and third parties
You’ll be a successful Senior Software Engineering Manager at OVO if you…
- Strong background in software engineering, system architecture, data and security
- Extensive knowledge of continuous integration and testing
- Expert knowledge of Agile software development
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Experience working with senior colleagues
- Experience managing risk and compliance
- Energy industry knowledge desirable but not crucial
- Thrive in an autonomous, self driven culture and a sometimes ambiguous landscape
- Balancing pace with attention to detail and enabling a culture of strong collaboration across technology, the wider programme and our operational stakeholders
