Senior Technical Manager (Viator)

Full Time
Oxford or London, United Kingdom

Viator’s mission is to bring more wonder into the world. To bring extraordinary, unexpected, and forever-memorable experiences to more people, more often, wherever they’re travelling, wherever they are. In doing so, Viator elevates thousands of businesses, large and small, along the way.

We’re the largest marketplace of our kind: a single place where travellers can book more than 300,000 tours, experiences and activities.

We’re looking for a Senior Technical Manager to join our team, reporting to the Senior Director of Experiences Engineering.

The Viator Experiences Engineering team is distributed across Europe and is responsible for viator.com, the Viator mobile apps and all their supporting infrastructure. We run the systems that help operators build their businesses and those which enable third parties to utilise our inventory. We provide the tools which help our customer services team provide world class service to travellers and operators internationally.

As a Senior Technical Manager you will oversee a group of pods of engineers working on related streams of work in a fast-paced agile environment. You will manage individual contributors and other managers, helping them to grow their careers at Viator. You will own the processes and technologies used in your areas and work in a truly collaborative team alongside other Engineering leads, product managers, designers and analysts.

While this is largely a hands-off role, we’re looking for someone with a wealth of technical experience who is willing and able to get involved when required. Our stack includes Java, React, Docker, Kubernetes, GraphQL, SQL and NoSQL databases, all running on Linux and in AWS.

We’re looking for someone who can fit into our collaborative culture. We have a fun and friendly environment where the key objective is getting things done. Key attributes would include openness, integrity, collaborative decision making and an informal, direct, communication style.

We operate a hybrid work schedule, allowing you the flexibility to work from the Oxford or London Tripadvisor offices.

If you’re interested, our requirements are:

  • At least five years’ experience of managing a software engineering team, ideally product-focussed and working on a high traffic website.
  • Detailed knowledge of web application architecture and infrastructure.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex technology-focused projects.
  • High quality verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to successfully grow effective teams.
  • Background of breaking down complex problems into simple solutions.
  • Sense of ownership, urgency and pride in your work.

Experience of working with international teams would be beneficial.

What You'll Get:

  • Annual performance related bonus
  • Generous stock (RSU) award upon joining, with additional awards annually
  • Regular salary reviews and excellent career growth opportunities
  • Flexible working hours & hybrid working, with a minimum of 1 day per week in the Oxford office
  • Free meals in the office
  • Full family private healthcare and dental
  • Excellent contributory pension
  • Critical illness and full life cover
  • Standard 25 days paid holiday (not including bank holidays), increasing with tenure
  • £1,050 annual stipend for costs outside the office such as gym membership or home office set up
  • “Summer Fridays” scheme allowing extra days off during the summer.

Application process

  • 30 minute call with a recruiter to learn more about the role
  • 45 minute technical interview with someone from the Viator Engineering team
  • Three one-hour interviews with members of the team, covering technical topics - including some coding - and what you would bring to Viator.

We strive to create an accessible and inclusive experience for all candidates. If you need a reasonable accommodation during the application or the recruiting process, please make sure to reach out to your individual recruiter or our team at recruitment@tripadvisor.com.
