Freedom Photonics LLC, a Luminar Company, a growing high-technology company based in the Santa Barbara area is seeking to hire a Senior Test Infrastructure Engineer. Freedom Photonics designs, develops and manufactures photonic components, modules, and subsystems, with applications in optical communications and sensing.  

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Test Infrastructure Engineer who will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the test infrastructure and systems necessary for efficient and reliable testing of our products. Your expertise in test automation, test frameworks, and infrastructure management will contribute to improving the quality and efficiency of our testing processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Test Infrastructure Design and Development:
  • Design and develop scalable and robust test infrastructure and systems to support photonic chip testing across various product lines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including chip design engineers, engineering test, and quality assurance, to define test infrastructure requirements and specifications.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and develop automated testing solutions to streamline the testing process.
  • Test Infrastructure Management:
  • Manage and maintain the test infrastructure, including equipment, tools, and software systems.
  • Maintain test equipment calibration.
  • Maintenance of SPC charts and SPC standards for production test sets.
  • Ensure the availability, reliability, and performance of the test infrastructure to meet the testing needs of current and future products.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot issues related to the test infrastructure and promptly address any system failures or malfunctions.
  • Collaboration and Documentation:
  • Collaborate with chip designers and engineering test teams to identify test infrastructure requirements for new products and features.
  • Document test infrastructure configurations, procedures, and best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing and ensure consistent usage across teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the testing team, assisting with test execution and troubleshooting when necessary.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proven experience in test infrastructure development and management within a semiconductor company or similar industry.
  • Experience interfacing test instrumentation with computers using GPIB
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, C++, or Java for developing test automation frameworks and tools.
  • Knowledge of testing methodologies, test automation frameworks, and CI/CD systems.
  • Familiarity with hardware testing processes and tools, including test equipment.
  • Willingness to take on technical challenges
  • Patience to optimize test sets and refine quality of test data.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with a detail-oriented mindset.
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills to work in a dynamic team environment.

 

Education/Experience Requirements:

 

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field with a strong background in manufacturing of photonic components, or equivalent experience
  • Self-motivated team player able to work with minimum supervision desired

 

Pay and Benefits

At Freedom Photonics, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays a base between $78,000 and $152,000* per year. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire and schedule type.

 

*Note that the pay range listed for this position is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.
