The MongoDB Atlas Data Services Team is a diverse group of contributors working together to help our users manage MongoDB at global scale. The Cloud Team is responsible for MongoDB Atlas: our database as a service offering and fastest growing product which allows users to deploy fault-tolerant, globally distributed MongoDB clusters in just minutes.

We're seeking a Staff Engineer to join the Cloud Identity and Access Management (IAM) team. The IAM team owns authentication and authorization for all of MongoDB Atlas, spanning from the underlying platform to user facing features and products. As such IAM is a platform and a product team, serving internal engineers as well as external customers. We enjoy the challenge of keeping MongoDB Atlas secure without compromising on its usability.

Role Responsibilities

• Work independently, define your top priorities and focuses, communicate them, and execute against them
• Lead and contribute to complex technical projects and initiatives that span multiple engineering teams
• Design, architect, build, and deliver core pieces of IAM in collaboration with other vested parties
• Work closely with research, product management, product engineering, product design, peers as well as other teams within the company to define the future evolution and vision of IAM
• Mentor and grow other team members
• Collaborate with team members to improve our codebase, best practices, and design principles

Candidate Profile

• 8+ years experience of building identity and access management systems such as authentication (OAuth, SSO), authorization (fine grained permissioning), and login and registration systems
• Proficient in a modern compiled programming language (Java, Go, C#, C++, etc.)
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Proven successes in designing, writing, testing, debugging, performance tuning, and maintaining secure and highly available distributed systems in large, long-lived code bases
• Desire to collaborate with colleagues and mentor fellow engineers
• Is curious, collaborative, empathetic, and intellectually honest
• Has a passion for problem solving and learning new things in the domains of computer science and software engineering

Success Measures

• In 3 months, you'll have shipped code into production and collaborated with the team to solve challenging problems
• In 6 months, you’ll be responsible for reviewing code and have contributed to a large project that involves multiple MongoDB engineering teams
• In 12 months, you'll have pushed forward a major engineering initiative and built consensus and driven best practices around your domains of expertise across the organization

Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB’s total compensation and benefits package.
