This role in a nutshell:

As part of the Advanced Virtual Agent (AVA) team, you will build the future of customer interaction and automation at OVO, harnessing AI to improve customer outcomes whilst increasing operational efficiency. You will play a leading role in the development of LLMs, contributing to the team's architecture and tooling.

Your key outcomes will be:

  • Designing, building and maintaining scalable AI solutions.
  • Perform both batch and real-time data transformations, ensuring data is accurate, efficient, and readily available for machine learning and analytics.
  • Working with Cloud infrastructure - primarily GCP.
  • Working in an Agile multi-disciplinary team where you will have the opportunity to influence technology selection.
  • Establishing and advocating for good engineering standard methodologies within the team, such as:
    • Using infrastructure as code.
    • Contributing to automated testing efforts.
    • Utilising monitoring and alerting tools.
    • Employing CI/CD standard processes for production releases.
    • Influence architecture with strong system design knowledge
  • Building and maintaining integration pipelines that power our automated journeys.
  • Mentoring junior members of the team - particularly interns and industry placements.
  • Working with key stakeholders to understand their data needs and help deliver solutions that provide them with excellent quality data that allows teams to realise their objectives.

You’ll be a successful Software Engineer at OVO if you…

  • A strong track record in designing, building, monitoring, and managing large-scale data products, pipelines, tooling, and platforms.
  • Highly motivated learner who loves keeping up to date with the latest advances in GenAI
  • Solid experience with streaming and batch ETL solutions using data processing tools like Kafka, Pub-Sub, VertexAI, BigQuery, Dataform, Postgres, or comparable technologies.
  • Hands-on experience in developing cloud-based solutions across GCP, AWS, or Azure, with a command of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform and cloud compute platforms like GCP Cloud Run.
  • Excellent command of at least one programming language recognised in the Data Engineering community; our team primarily utilises Python.
  • A deep understanding of the best engineering practices, including containerisation, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD).
  • Experience of ML Ops, Model Training, Evaluation and Deployment
  • Passion for crafting scalable, resilient solutions that are observable. Experience with platforms such as Datadog or Grafana will be useful
  • Comfortability working in an agile development setting with frequent release cycles, paired with experience in pair programming, Test-Driven Development (TDD), CI/CD, and strategic deployment approaches

We’ll pay you between £77,630 and £103,000, depending on your specific skills and experience. 

We keep our pay ranges broad on purpose to give us, and you, flexibility to match your experience to our zero carbon mission.

You’ll be eligible for an on-target bonus of 15%. We have one OVO bonus plan that focuses on the collective performance of our people to deliver our Plan Zero goal.
