Software Engineer, CUDA (Raptor)
SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
SOFTWARE ENGINEER, CUDA (RAPTOR)
We’re looking for a strong software developer with skills in performance engineering and design.
The goal of the SpaceX combustion modeling team is to develop first-in-class combustion simulation software to optimize and significantly reduce the development time of the Raptor rocket engine. Work with brilliant, passionate engineers, software developers, and analysts to develop unprecedented simulation capabilities that directly support the rapid design of the most cutting-edge engines in the world. We have no shortage of hard problems and challenges.
Aerospace experience is not required to be successful here - rather we look for smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving hard software problems and want to make a direct impact on a super inspiring mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Seek out, evaluate, and implement state-of-the-art features on multi-core and GPU hardware that extend simulation capabilities and improve the performance, as motivated by an aggressive rocket development program
- Develop and maintain a massively parallel, high performance combustion simulation software
- Collaborate with combustion analysts and computational physicists to develop advanced simulation tools that accelerate engine design
- Extend and improve interoperability among existing tools
- Support all aspects of software development as a member of a cross-functional team
- Maintain highest standards of excellence, never settling for the status quo, with a focus on getting to Mars
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, math, or science discipline; OR 2+ years of professional experience in software development in lieu of a degree
- 1+ years of development experience in C++
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience developing highly efficient concurrent/parallel applications and algorithms (e.g. threading, MPI, CUDA)
- Experience working with a team on at least one large (>100,000 lines) software project
- Experience with object-oriented software design and functional programing
- Understanding of distributed, horizontally scalable systems
- Strong skills with debuggers, performance optimization, and unit testing
- Familiar with Agile software development techniques, particularly test-driven development, and continuous integration
- Background in physics-based simulation, scientific computing, high-performance computing, or mathematics
- Basic understanding of fluid mechanics
- Master’s degree in computer science or an engineering discipline
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willing to travel in support of launching and testing of hardware
- Willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range: Software Engineer/Level I: $120,000.00 - $145,000.00/per year Software Engineer/Level II: $140,000.00 - $170,000.00/per yearYour actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
