The Dispatch team is at the heart of our product functionality and decision-making processes. We are responsible for fulfilling ride requests through efficiently dispatching the most suitable drivers. Additionally, we play a crucial role in empowering various essential components of Lyft by making them more predictive and adaptive to marketplace changes. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about solving distributed system problems, and is excited about working in a fast-paced, innovative, and collegial environment.

As an engineer in the Dispatch team, you will not only develop and enhance our large-scale dispatch platform, but also work closely with across-functional partners like data scientists and product managers to improve algorithms and iterate on products continuously. 

Responsibilities:
  • Write well-crafted, well-tested, readable, maintainable code
  • Be responsible for, design, develop, deploy, monitor, operate and maintain existing or new elements of our systems and infrastructure
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and distribute knowledge
  • Incorporate considerations for business context, failure modes, monitoring, compliance, and security in your work
  • Proactively participate in resolving ongoing incidents and on-call support
  • Share your knowledge by giving brown bags, tech talks, and evangelizing appropriate tech and engineering best practices
  • Unblock, support and communicate with internal partners to achieve results
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners like product, data science, analytics, and operations on code that empower us to iterate quickly
Experience:
  • BS/MS or equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or relevant work experience
  • 2+ years of software engineering/production industry experience
  • Experience designing, debugging and running fault-tolerant, highly available, large-scale distributed systems
  • Experience with object-oriented programming
  • Experience working with databases, relational or NoSQL
  • Experience writing clear and scalable design documentation

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Thursdays and a team-specific third day. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.

The expected range of pay for this position in the San Francisco Area is $139,500 - $155,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
