Software Engineer, Events Exchange 

Candidates for this position are preferred to be based in Toronto, CAN and will be expected to comply with their team's hybrid work schedule requirements.

The Event Exchange platform is composed of platforms aimed at empowering every Wayfair team with high-quality data. It accomplishes this through ingesting, organizing, and activating data in a scalable fashion. The platform was born out of an original mission to produce insights that would power a single view of the customer for far-reaching purposes from personalization to predicting behaviors to analytics. Today, those same tools have grown to ingest any type of data (product, customer, order, etc.) in real-time, support any type of prediction (e.g. shipping times, best email send time, class affinity), and activate that data in all the ways teams desire to consume it. 

 

What You’ll Do

• As a Software Engineer, you will actively work alongside other engineers to contribute to highly technical projects and deliver high quality contributions to the codebase.
• Build scalable systems using Java, Python, Kubernetes, Kafka,GraphQL  and other technologies
• Think outside of the current technology/stack limitations to push the boundaries on what is possible and deliver feasible solutions collaboratively
• Champion open source solutions and Google Cloud native technologies, and their application to our use cases
• Provide superior monitoring visibility to technical and operational health of the platform
• Contribute to as well as learn from a culture of engineering excellence and strengthen the technical expertise of our engineering and product teams 

What You'll Need 

 

• 2+ years of experience as a Backend engineer.
• 2+ years of experience with a modern programming language (such as Python, Java, Rust, JavaScript, PHP, or others)
• Experience in Streaming Data technologies/frameworks like Apache Kafka,Apache Beam.
• Preferred experience in CI/CD tools/platforms like Buildkite/Docker/Kubernetes.
• Experience in system monitoring using tools like Grafana/DataDog etc.
• Experience initiating and driving complex projects to completion with minimal guidance
• Experience building a variety of applications ranging from low latency APIs to large scale batch systems, preferably in public cloud, using cloud native services
• Experience with streaming technologies and messaging frameworks.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders alike
