Software Engineering I (Backend Engineer, Okta Personal)

We’re looking for recent university graduates who are interested in starting off their career with Okta as backend engineer, and are passionate about helping us make digital living safe and seamless for everyone.

 

Today there are millions of websites, mobile apps, and API services in the world, and most of these depend on identity as a key layer to deliver value. However the end user experiences for creating, managing and using one’s identity on these apps and services have not significantly changed in the last two decades. Users are still dealing with hundreds of usernames and passwords to proxy their relationships with businesses. As Okta, we believe the users are ready for a better experience, and our goal is to fundamentally rethink and redefine what the future of identity looks like across the Internet.

 

We are a small, agile and growing team of talented engineers, who are bringing Okta’s expertise and experience in identity to the personal world. With emphasis on an end user mindset, we leverage rapid iteration and ongoing experimentation to build the best product for our users. Working cross-functionally with Product, Design, Research and others, we depend on our ability to communicate openly and collaborate well. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work with the engineering team to develop and deliver highly scalable software used daily by millions of users 
• Drive evaluation, development, and roll-out of new features in our desktop web application and browser extension with focus on backend portion
• Help with design and code reviews. Ensure high programming standards by writing unit and functional tests. 
• Collaborate across Product, Design and Engineering teams

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Interest/Experience  in backend software development with web technologies that support building highly reliable, consumer-facing software.
• Knowledge of building simple backend/infrastructure for web apps using Java and Node.js.
• Past summer internship experience, ideally in consumer software companies

Nice to haves:

• Customer identity experience
• Other web development experience: backbone.js, web extensions
• Experience with modern cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP)

Education and Training: B.S., or M.S., in Computer Science or related field

Below is the annual salary range for candidates located in Canada. Your actual salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance, RRSP with a match, healthcare spending, telemedicine, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in Canada is between:$92,000—$138,000 CAD
