Who We Are:

The Machine Learning Platforms team provides Wayfair machine learning engineers and scientists with an integrated platform composed of a variety of in-house and vendor solutions that enable and accelerate ML development at Wayfair. Our mission is to make machine learning more accessible and to enable scientists and engineers to solve more business problems with ML. We do this by building and maintaining multiple solutions to accelerate ML workflows, such as our scalable model deployment platform and our plugin that allows users to easily configure CI/CD for their orchestration workflows. This role is for a backend engineer who will be focused on enablement of cloud native services and tooling for model development, training, and deployment.

Your role at Wayfair

  • Take complex engineering problems, design appropriate solutions and deliver on them fairly independently with limited oversight
  • Work on a variety of technologies - from model training to model deployment tools using GCP, K8s and Python
  • Work closely as needed with the Machine Learning Science and Engineering teams and develop good architectural patterns allowing us to deploy ML models quickly and flexibly
  • Design systems that can handle large volumes of data and provide robustness, resilience to failures, and smart anomaly detection capabilities
  • Be a multiplier, mentor other engineers on the team and help them become more productive and implement engineering best practices

What You'll Need:

  • 6+ years of experience as a backend or full stack engineer
  • Expertise with a modern programming language (such as Python, Java, Rust, JavaScript, PHP, or others)
  • Experience building a variety of applications ranging from low latency APIs to large scale batch systems
  • Experience working with a cloud provider, preferably Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience in CI/CD tools/platforms like Buildkite/Docker/Kubernetes
  • Experience working with Data Science and/or Machine Learning would be a added advantage
  • Proficiency in designing robust, reliable systems at scale
  • Experience in system monitoring using tools like Grafana/DataDog etc.
  • A track record of delivering in increments and learning as you go
  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading code and design reviews
  • Experience in working with product managers to define, break down, and collaborate on feature work
  • Great verbal and written communication skills and the ability to support technical decision making with the team
  • A genuine believer in constructive and respectful code reviews, retros, and collaborative problem-solving as the bedrock of a healthy team
