Our Opportunity:Chewy is seeking a Software Engineer to join the team in Plantation, FL or Boston, MA. This is an excellent opportunity to join our full stack engineering team that supports behind-the-scenes operations, while gaining significant exposure to Chewy’s entire business! Our cloud-based integration empowers you to integrate our software with our core e-commerce platform.  As part of a dynamic team and high growth company, you will work in a fast-paced environment where your work will have an immediate impact on the business. Our collaborative code environment will allow you the opportunity to learn from and work closely with our passionate engineers.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop internal tools and services to support the Data Science team in model development, experimentation, and deployment
  • Create or modify complex programs, modules, routines, scripts and data objects from a detailed design where efficiency, performance and reliability are critical
  • You’ll write simple and sustainable code that reflects a deep understanding of our business and contributes meaningfully to the success of your team and delivery to our customers  
  • Ensure that technical solutions follow best practices, are reliable, are easily maintainable and are scalable under sustained load
  • Participate in design and code reviews
  • Collaborate to identify, isolate and resolve malfunctions related to software
  • Conduct knowledge transition on solutions to the designated application support team(s)
  • Create and evolve application documentation as required
  • Operate in compliance with IT standards, policies, procedures, and best practices

What You'll Need:

  • BS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Information Technology
  • Minimum 4+ years of full software development lifecycle experience including the ability to perform independent analysis
  • Strong proficiency in Python, including experience with libraries commonly used in Data Science workflows such as pandas, scikit-learn, fastparquet, pyarrow, or pyspark
  • Familiarity with Docker for containerization and creating reproducible, portable environments
  • Understanding of popular Data Science platforms and tools such as Jupyter Notebooks, Databricks, and MLflow
  • Ability to work with a range of data formats including CSV, Parquet, and Pickle (for model serialization)
  • Proficiency in querying and working with both SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB)
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures, especially for triggering model training, inference pipelines, or data transformation workflows
  • Strong debugging, testing, and code quality practices, with an emphasis on building robust and reusable tooling
  • Must be team oriented and have a customer service approach
  • Strong Computer Science fundamentals including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, and complexity analysis  
  • Demonstrated ability to work with database and avanced SQL skills
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment 

Bonus:

  • Experience developing tools, utilities, or automation to support Data Science model development, experimentation, and operationalization
  • Experience working with ETL pipelines, data lakes, and various data storage systems
