Software Engineer II
Our Opportunity:
We are looking for a Software Engineer II at our facility in Boston, MA to design, develop and have operational oversight over features and systems at Chewy.
What You’ll Do:
- Design and develop impactful full-stack software capabilities to enhance or create new functionality needed to grow Chewy.
- Design and develop resilient system for a customer-facing web applications from user interface, to supporting services, to data storage.
- Responsibility over components of Chewy’s systems – both development and operational needs.
- Drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development.
- Involved in design reviews and perform code reviews based on Chewy’s engineering rigor and standards.
- Debug production issues in Chewy services and tech stack.
- Measure and optimize the performance, effectiveness, and uptime of backend services.
- Local telecommuting permitted.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field and 2 years of experience.
- Alternatively, a Master’s degree and zero years of experience.
- Experience or coursework must include the following: an object-oriented language, such as Java;
- Software development in Java8/Spring Boot stack;
- Writing object oriented code, designing, creating and deploying web services with RESTful endpoints, working with structured and unstructured data stores, and debugging issues;
- Professional software engineering practices for the full software development life cycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations;
- Computer Science fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, data models, backend tuning, algorithm - design, problem solving, and complexity analysis;
- Designing, building and deploying features;
- Agile methodologies;
- Cloud and orchestration technologies (AWS Services, Terraform, and Ansible);
- Web services including RESTful APIs, storage systems including Aurora and DynamoDB, Search systems including OpenSearch, version control systems, and bug/issue tracking tools.
