Pinterest’s Security Privacy team seeks a Software Engineer II to help build scalable, secure, and privacy-compliant systems that protect sensitive user data and support regulatory compliance. You’ll contribute to the development of systems that safeguard millions of users, support privacy-focused innovation, and help detect and remediate potential security risks. We’re looking for someone with a passion for secure software development, curiosity for solving privacy challenges, and a desire to grow in a collaborative, compliance-driven environment.
What you’ll do:
- Contribute to the design and implementation of scalable systems that support privacy compliance and secure handling of sensitive user data.
- Write, review and maintain code that is well-documented, thoroughly tested and compliant with security and privacy best practices.
- Assist in monitoring systems and identifying potential privacy vulnerabilities, participating in root cause analysis and remediation efforts.
- Collaborate with compliance, engineering, and product teams to align on goals and help implement privacy-by-design practices.
- Support ongoing efforts to respond to and prevent privacy-related incidents, learning from and helping implement improvements.
- Participate in knowledge sharing across the team, including contributions to training or onboarding sessions.
What we’re looking for:
- 3+ years of experience in software engineering, with increasing responsibility.
- 1+ years of hands-on experience in privacy and security engineering, or equivalent experience tackling privacy-related challenges.
- Proficiency in a dynamic programming language (e.g., Python or Java), with an ability to write clean, maintainable and secure code.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt in technical environments and collaborate across teams.
- Familiarity with privacy frameworks and an interest in applying privacy requirements within system development.
- Experience or exposure to secure data handling, logging, monitoring, or incident response.
- Collaborative mindset, with strong communication skills and enthusiasm for working with cross-functional partners.
- Curiosity and motivation to grow your expertise in privacy, security and scalable systems that impact real users.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. We welcome non-traditional backgrounds, including bootcamps and self-taught engineers.

- This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 1-2 times/month and can be situated anywhere in the country.
