At Lyft, our mission is to improve people’s lives with the world’s best transportation. To accomplish this, we start with our own community by creating an open, inclusive, and diverse organization.

The Fulfillment group, in Marketplace, at Lyft is responsible for determining what inventory can be reliably offered for a given rider session and reliably fulfilling rider requests. The group has a few sub teams that are responsible for generating feasible offers for riders, connecting rider requests with drivers to fulfill those offers and a demand and supply lifecycle platform that power great rideshare experience.

As a software engineer at Lyft, you'll collaborate with other software engineers and cross functions like product, data science and analytics to lead and execute large projects from idea  to efficient execution. We're looking for a motivated Software Engineer who is passionate about solving challenging technical problems and is excited about working in a fast-paced, innovative and cross-functional environment where they will take on some of the most interesting and impactful problems in ridesharing.

Description

Matching is responsible for improving the way drivers are dispatched at Lyft and hence has an outsized impact on business-level goals such as increased driver utilization and lower fulfillment cost. The team is involved in defining new modes (FastPass, W&S), tuning scoring and filtering decisions, intelligently applying geospatial (walking) and temporal (waiting) levers, and expanding the time horizon over which we evaluate our decisions. This team is good for someone who is excited about algorithmic/back-end systems and an opportunity to own a mission-critical part of the golden path. Passionate about Lyft business & product; good learner and collaborator; eager to drive things to happen, inside the team and across teams Small and close team; passionate and collaborative co-workers.

Tools and Technologies / Primary Partners and Stakeholders

The team owns services written in Golang.

Opportunities To Grow and Impact

Matching is unique in that a majority of projects and enhancements are originated by individual contributors (both DS and SWE) themselves based on their ideas for improving the system. The space of possible improvements is vast and it's easy to get excited about a potential idea, implement it, and see it improving passenger/driver experiences shortly thereafter. Matching runs the most experiments of any team at Lyft.
