Software Engineer, Middleware
We’re in an unbelievably exciting area of tech and are fundamentally reshaping the data storage industry. Here, you lead with innovative thinking, grow along with us, and join the smartest team in the industry.
This type of work—work that changes the world—is what the tech industry was founded on. So, if you're ready to seize the endless opportunities and leave your mark, come join us.
THE ROLEAs a Middleware Software Engineer, you will architect the critical software layer that serves as the "brain" of the FlashArray, bridging the gap between hardware and high-level user interfaces. You will join an elite team dedicated to maintaining 99.9999% availability while orchestrating complex data services across hybrid-cloud environments. This role differentiates itself by offering true end-to-end ownership—from initial whiteboarding to shipping code that manages petabytes of data—collaborating closely with hardware and cloud-native teams to redefine modern storage.
WHAT YOU'LL DO-
Architect Robust Middleware Services: Design and implement sophisticated backend algorithms and APIs that handle complex system states and data orchestration, ensuring zero downtime for mission-critical applications.
-
Scale Cloud-Native Innovations: Lead the technical delivery of hybrid-cloud features, such as CloudSnap and Cloud Block Store, to extend high-performance storage capabilities into AWS and Azure environments.
-
Optimize System Performance: Conduct rigorous software analysis and performance modeling to resolve concurrency challenges and system risks within a highly distributed Linux-based architecture.
-
Drive Quality and Reliability: Own the full software lifecycle of key features, from design to deployment, to ensure every release enhances the simplicity and reliability our customers depend on.
-
Advanced Backend Engineering: Deep proficiency in building scalable, high-performance applications on Linux/UNIX platforms. While we utilize multiple languages, strong expertise in Java is highly desired for driving our core middleware services.
-
Systems Design Mindset: Proven ability to perform comprehensive software analysis, including requirements gathering, performance tuning, and identifying system risks in complex distributed environments.
-
Collaborative Problem Solving: A natural curiosity for "how things work" and a track record of working effectively within a team to solve deep technical challenges through persistent insight and design sensibility.
-
Full-Stack Backend Expertise: Experience with backend-related development at scale, including SQL, API design, and mastery of concurrency and multithreading.
-
Location: We are primarily an in-office environment and therefore, you will be expected to work from the Santa Clara, CA office in compliance with Pure’s policies, unless you are on PTO, or work travel, or other approved leave.
