Snapshot

We’re looking for someone with strong technical skills including web-based user interface and backend data management for large file size data exchange. Experience in working with sensor data (video and audio) would massively help this role.

About Us

Artificial Intelligence could be one of humanity’s most useful inventions. At Google DeepMind, we’re a team of scientists, engineers, machine learning experts and more, working together to advance the state of the art in artificial intelligence. We use our technologies for widespread public benefit and scientific discovery, and collaborate with others on critical challenges, ensuring safety and ethics are the highest priority.

The Role

The role requires building an independent pipeline to integrate hardware (in the form of sensors) to user interfaces and backend models, for efficient post processing and reviewing of captured data. Code optimisation, data management as well as UI skills need to be combined to deliver for this project. You will be working mostly independently from pre-set requirements and engaging with users, in the form of researchers, who will be utilising the developed pipeline. This is a standalone project.

Key responsibilities:

During the project, you will delivering an independent codebase for a project

  • Understand the project’s needs and constraints by engaging with the research team.
  • Developing, testing and delivering an independent codebase for connecting hardware sensors to postprocessed data. A number of different hardwares will be explored.
  • Feedback to the team on progress of the project, including showcasing early prototypes and updating the plan based on the feedback provided.
  • Document and prep the code for use beyond the contract duration.
About You

In order to set you up for success as a Software Engineer at Google DeepMind,  we look for the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in developing Google Cloud-based services and simply, easy-to-use web interfaces
  • A general knowledge of requirements for working with medium-sized data, of various sensors (cameras, microphones, …)
  • Interest in interfacing with users, working from user feedback, and multimodal data collection.
  • Interest in multimodal AI models and using off-the-shelf models for efficient data analysis.

In addition, the following would be an advantage:

  • Use of computer vision tools: deploying off-the-shelf models on Google Cloud to detect objects, summarize frames, blur regions, and more.
  • Interest in working with hardware, pulling data from sensor devices and establishing the pipeline for recordings to be safely uploaded and stored.
