The Wayfair Carrier Cost and Rates team is responsible for the services that provide ‘accurate’, ‘transparent’ carrier shipping costs and rate cards to all the products that Wayfair delivers to its customers. Team ensures that rates are quick to update, and are accessible to people and systems via varied APIs to support carrier management, carrier selection, product pricing & financial audit. Our services serve ~5 millions requests a minute at peak to serve accurate shipping cost estimates to our consumers. 

We are looking for a passionate engineer who loves to solve complex problems, learns fast, and shares knowledge to others across teams. This role should help us build and optimize the systems at scale with very low latency for each request.

• Be super nimble explaining complex Architectural options in order to drive decision making collaborating with the team, Lead, Staff Engineers, Engineering Managers etc.
• Obsessively focus on production readiness with the team that includes DataDog metrics, monitoring, deployment, documentation and proactive troubleshooting to be operationally efficient. 
• Being a fluent communicator in a multicultural environment where respecting others and still driving results will be key attributes for success.
• Should be a person who is easy to work with and collaborative and coachable.
• Help grow other young engineers technically by sharing, pairing, and solving together.

 

What You Bring To The Table

• 6+ years of experience with multiple programming languages; Java, C#. PHP and JavaScript are nice to have skills.
• First class problem solver who brings a ‘can-do’ attitude on the table.
• Experienced with Kubernetes, DataDog, Databases (MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL etc.), Docker, API first design approaches within a Microservices based distributed services environment.
• Should be comfortable in analyzing and debugging code across polyglot services. 
• Experienced in architecting and building large-scale microservices based services. 
• Good understanding of system designs, patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experienced in working with other engineers to improve code/service quality.
• Knows how to get Technical agreement on designs working within the team and also outside the team as needed.
• Capability to collaborate across the wider organization, influence even without direct authority with an inclusive, adaptable and persuasive communication style
• A proven track record in developing and delivering big solutions with small increments.
