SPACE OPERATIONS PARAMEDIC – CONTRACT

SpaceX is currently building the world's next human spaceflight capability. We’re actively supporting a wide array of mission types - revolutionizing access to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) with cargo and crewed Dragon missions, returning humans to the Moon by developing a Human Lander System (HLS) for NASA’s Artemis program, and rapidly developing Starship, the first rocket and spacecraft designed to support crewed trips to Mars. As a space operations paramedic at SpaceX, you’ll work under the supervision of SpaceX physicians and assist in clinical care and human spaceflight medical operations such as launch and return of the Dragon spacecraft. SpaceX is seeking excellent, team-oriented medical professionals who have a passion and interest in human spaceflight.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support human spaceflight medical operations, including Dragon spacecraft return operations
  • Learn required material to support our operations and participate in activities such as training events, table-top exercises, and debriefs
  • Work in highly dynamic environments to provide medical care to astronauts

POSITION DETAILS:

This is a contractor position. You will not be an employee of SpaceX. Selection as one of SpaceX’s potential contractors would qualify you for notification of any upcoming contractor needs. Contractors are expected to be available for periodic training to develop and retain proficiency with all operations as well as operations support, as needed. Launch timelines can be dynamic so schedule flexibility is mandatory.

  • LOCATION: Long Beach, CA
  • SHIFT: All shifts
  • Missions occur about 3-6 times per year. Each mission provides the opportunity for approximately 2 weeks of work

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have at least one of the following professional qualifications and be work in that capacity in the state of CA:
    • Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (EMT-P)
    • Registered Nurse (RN)
    • Nurse Practitioner (NP)
  • 1+ years of flight medicine experience with helicopter operations

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of pre-hospital, emergency department, or austere environment experience
  • Be clinically active with regular work in an acute care setting such as a hospital or ambulance service
  • Have more than one of the professional qualifications listed above (EMT-P, RN, NP)
  • Military experience, especially in an operational combat role
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Have schedule flexibility; weekend and overnight work may be necessary in certain situations
  • Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings, climbing hand over hand, and lifting 125 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at height, and work in tight/confined spaces
  • Must be willing to travel
