Position Overview

StepStone Group LP (StepStone) seeks a Sr. Associate, Data & Analytics for its La Jolla, CA location.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

• Process data and generate analysis used in investment research and oversight processes.
• Perform classification and ingestion of data into StepStone’s database.
• Transform and maintain integrity of data in StepStone’s database.
• Support due diligence analyses of private market funds by constructing database entries and track record models used to analyze historical performance of private markets fund managers.
• Deliver routine updates to existing dashboards and processes for ongoing reporting and monitoring purposes.
• Develop new dashboards and processes that support the research teams’ continued growth.
• Handle complex data requests and analysis for Business Development purposes, using a combination of proprietary data and financial models.
• Perform analyses for StepStone’s Research department, leveraging proprietary tools and financial models.
• Create Dashboards and other self-serve models for the research team to utilize.
• Classify and store characteristics of investment managers along with transforming and importing data from a variety of sources.
• Provide application and analytical support to researchers on issues such as valuations and data.
• Research and develop analytical tools to address issues such as portfolio construction, optimization, performance measurement, attribution, profit and loss measurement, and pricing models.
• Establish ownership of several management processes for regular upkeep and updates.
• Produce client facing due diligence materials.
• Train new employees and/or clients on how to use StepStone’s research systems, and apply understanding of industry concepts and terminology within private market investments.
• Responsible for team of direct reports and the team’s production of projects, including analysis and presentation materials for internal and external client meetings to support investment recommendations.
• Provide management of assigned responsibilities and day-to-day leadership of dedicated team by coordinating and collaborating with other members of the broader department, and reviewing project outcomes.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

• Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in International Business, Finance, Data Science or a related field and 3 years of experience in the job offered or as a Data Analyst or a related role.
• Two (2) years of required experience must include:
  • Utilizing MySQL to process data and generate analysis for investment research;
  • Using advanced Excel features including VBA/Macros to assist with due diligence processes for new private markets funds and alternative investments by constructing track record models and templates;
  • Handling complex data requests for business development purposes using a combination of database tools, including internal database management services and third-party data sources, including: S&P Capital IQ, Burgiss Private IQ, Preqin, Pitchbook and Bloomberg Terminal; Utilizing Power BI and other Data Visualization tools to deliver data and routine updates to existing dashboards and processes for monitoring purposes and to support research team growth;
  • Participating in ongoing data analysis process by using the Jira Ticketing system
  • Applying industry knowledge of private markets and best data practices to assist with due diligence (ad-hoc market analysis) and business development processes (request for proposals to win new business).
