SR. COUNSEL, ENVIRONMENTAL  

SpaceX’s growing manifest and infrastructure has created an opportunity to add the Counsel, Environmental position to the Legal team. This person will be the primary responsible attorney for providing legal counsel and strategic guidance on matters related to U.S. federal and state environmental laws.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide expert advice and guidance on U.S. federal environmental laws, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Endangered Species Act (ESA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and Clean Air Act (CAA)
  • Advise on requirements under California, Texas, and Florida environmental laws
  • Develop legal strategies for federal and state environmental review processes
  • Draft and conduct legal review of NEPA documents and various permits
  • Research and draft environmental litigation and administrative proceeding motions, orders, briefs, and declarations
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationship with internal stakeholders and federal and state officials involved in SpaceX’s environmental review processes
  • Identify and clearly explain to internal stakeholders the legal risks, options, and ramifications under environmental laws and regulations
  • Help the business mitigate legal risks

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Active licensed attorney
  • 8+ years of experience working with U.S. federal environmental laws

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of U.S. federal environmental laws
  • Familiarity with environmental laws in California, Texas, and/or Florida
  • Experience with litigation and administrative proceedings
  • Experience working with U.S. federal agencies, such as U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and build strong relationships with other business groups and/or clients

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Willingness to travel 4 to 6 times a year to the different SpaceX offices for a week at a time

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

Sr. Counsel, Environmental: $220,000.00 - $260,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. ITAR REQUIREMENTS:

  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
