SR. DATA & CONTROL SYSTEMS ENGINEER, AUTOMATION AND CONTROLS

This engineer designs and troubleshoots electrical, mechanical, software, computing and network systems for critical infrastructure at our Hawthorne campus. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the operational capability of all control voltage level (<60V) electrical systems
  • Develop and upgrade data acquisition and control systems 
  • Create new automation systems pertaining to avionics and engine testing
  • Provide technical support and guidance for controls technicians and other non-controls engineering groups
  • Develop new hardware and processes to improve capabilities, reduce cost, and setup time of non-vehicle electrical systems
  • Analyze data to assess the function of electrical systems
  • Assist in the design and analysis of experiments to evaluate test articles 
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics, electrical engineering, or computer engineering 
  • 5+ years of experience with system level design, integration, or testing of electro-mechanical systems and/or components (academic projects, internships, and traditional professional experience all qualify)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Hands-on experience activating, building, and troubleshooting analog electronic systems
  • Familiarity with mixed signal electronics, power supply design or analog filtering, testing and troubleshooting techniques (or integration & troubleshooting COTS hardware), signal integrity, layout and grounding principles
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement and troubleshoot data acquisition and control hardware
  • Fundamental understanding of engineering principles behind electronic equipment, instrumentation, and commonly used industrial equipment
  • Proficiency with data review and statistical methods is a plus
  • General schematic capture and printed circuit board (PCB) design and/or verification and validation experience
  • Familiarity with Python, C++, Labview or other scripting or programming languages is a plus
  • Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment while managing multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong work ethic and drive to succeed as part of a high functioning team
  • Experience designing and installing instrumentation and control systems in hazardous areas (NFPA 70 Section 500 installations); Class 1, Division 1 and Division 2 environments or IEC equivalence

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings
  • Ability to work at elevated heights (200+ feet)
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as climbing up and down stairs and/or ladders regularly throughout the day
  • Ability to lift light weight supplies or materials (up to 25lbs unassisted)
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational needs; flexibility required
  • Ability to work in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, flashing lights, heat, cold, rain, and noise
  • Willingness to travel to other SpaceX or 3rd party facilities as needed (less than 25% travel)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range: 

Data & Control Systems Engineer/Senior: $130,000.00 - $180,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
