Elastic is seeking a Sr Director of Strategy and Planning to support our Vice President of Sales for AMER.  The Sr Director will assist in evaluating and redefining the Sales organization, counseling on industry strategy, implementing a new sales excellence model and driving key initiatives on behalf of the VP. As a strategist, advisor and executor, the Sr Director will be a key member of the VPs leadership team, contributing to the growth and long-term success of Elastic. The Sr Director will help define and drive strategy, analytics, and sales excellence across all revenue-oriented and customer-facing functions in order to meet revenue, operational and strategic goals. They will equally assist in re-evaluating current legacy models to optimize performance and ensure the right resources are in the right job functions.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • In partnership with the VP of AMER Sales, develop and implement short- and long-range strategic plans with measurable goals focused on fueling growth in revenue, margin and operating profit
  • Find areas for improvement within the existing sales organization, challenging status quo by suggesting alternate approaches in the promotion of the Elastic story (Cloud, solution expansion, pipeline growth, etc…)
  • Leverage your network to identify and recruit new talent to help raise the bar within Elastic
  • Meet with strategic partners and customers to evangelize Elastic messaging
  • Act as a proxy in critical meetings and key decision-making processes
  • Establish trust and credibility within the organization, and ensure highly collaborative working relationships with senior leadership and partners across Elastic, while maintaining trust and confidentiality at all times
  • Help prioritize inquiries to the VP to determine the proper course of action, and delegate as appropriate
What We Are Looking For:
  • 10-15+ years of corporate strategy and/or senior sales leadership with global oversight in an enterprise technology company
  • Extensive experience working with Sales organizations, with a very strong understanding of revenue generation, margin optimization, pipeline management, territory alignment and quotas, etc.
  • Ability to combine strategic, analytical, big-picture thinking with the ability to drive detailed, operational excellence
  • Outstanding leadership qualities with significant management experience and a strong commitment to service and accountability
  • A blend of strategic and operational experience and capabilities. The successful candidate will have a genuine passion for both and will have the adaptability to move equally between long-term strategic issues to short-term tactical implementation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; validated experience in articulating sales, business operations, and strategy-related concepts to all audiences, including C-level executives and the Board
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills; proven ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical contributors, management and executive leadership
  • Proven ability leading organizational transformation projects and large-scale change management efforts
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit top talent and manage team growth
  • Ability to simultaneously lead multiple competing priorities
  • Strong operational discipline and attention to detail

Compensation for this role is in the form of base salary.  This role does not have a variable compensation component.  

The typical starting salary range for new hires in this role is listed below.  In select locations (including Seattle WA, Los Angeles CA, the San Francisco Bay Area CA, and the New York City Metro Area), an alternate range may apply as specified below. 

These ranges represent the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the ranges may be modified in the future.  

An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Elastic believes that employees should have the opportunity to share in the value that we create together for our shareholders. Therefore, in addition to cash compensation, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic's stock program.  Our total rewards package also includes a company-matched 401k with dollar-for-dollar matching up to 6% of eligible earnings, along with a range of other benefits offered with a holistic emphasis on employee well-being.
