Our Serverless Compute Platform is at the heart of this mission, helping customer workloads run in the cloud - from Spark-based Data Analytics, Data Engineering, and Data Warehousing to the latest workloads in GenAI and ML space. As the Senior Engineering Manager in the Serverless Compute Platform organization, you'll lead the development of a reliable, available, and scalable Serverless Compute platform that is important to the business. You will manage multi-cloud infrastructure that launches millions of VMs per day and processes exabytes of data every day. You will be reporting to the Director of Engineering.

The impact you will have:

  • Delivery:
    • Lead a team of accomplished software engineers to build the next-generation multi-tenant, fault-tolerant, and cost-efficient cloud native Serverless Compute Platform
    • Work with the engineering teams to define how the product ecosystem works with the compute platform to achieve team goals. Partnering with other engineering and product leaders on planning, prioritization and staffing
  • Product and Technology:
    • Define the product and engineering roadmap for the team. Identify a clear strategy for the technical architecture and the interface with customers
    • Manage and operate a available, fault-tolerant, and cost-efficient service in the cloud, and raising the bar on SLOs
  • Hiring and Organizational:
    • Grow the team by hiring world class engineering talent and upleveling leaders on the team by providing coaching, and growth opportunities
    • Evolve the organizational structure to support long-term projects and building teams

What we look for:

  • 5+ years experience working in, large-scale serverless platforms, large-scale online services, or large-scale distributed systems
  • Experience building available cloud services. Experience defining, meeting, and raising the SLOs for available systems
  • Build teams in a complex technical domain
  • Attract and hire engineers who meet the Databricks hiring standards, and hold a high bar
  • Understand what the different product teams and customers needs
  • Identify a clear vision and strategy
  • Guide a technical direction and sussing out poor designs to avoid challenges down the road
  • Inspired by automation and driving down team operational load
  • BS in Computer Science, Software (Masters or PhD preferred)

Pay Range Transparency

Databricks is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range(s) for this role is listed below and represents base salary range for non-commissionable roles or on-target earnings for commissionable roles.  Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, relevant certifications and training, and specific work location. Based on the factors above, Databricks utilizes the full width of the range. The total compensation package for this position may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above. Local Pay Range$222,000—$300,000 USD
