Our Opportunity

Chewy is seeking a Sr. Program Manager, High Risk Operations (HRO) to support the Chewy Fulfillment Network. The Sr. Program Manager, HRO will be responsible for partnering with the Site Operations team, Engineering team and Continuous Improvement team to manage the Environmental, Health and Safety deliverables required in the FC network. They will be providing technical leadership for contractor risk management (CRM) operations and additional EHS support/oversight for high-risk activities. This role will work cross functionally to develop and manage programs that will standardize risk identification Chewy’s third party contractor safety management process and to ensure compliance with Chewy’s safety requirements, contractor onboarding, review of SOPs, equipment maintenance procedures and continuous improvement projects.

 What you'll do:

  • Develop a deep working relationship and partnership with Procurement, Maintenance, Asset Protection and third-party vendors across the FC network.
  • Support the development of policies, standards, training and safe operating procedures.
  • Be responsible for updating, maintaining and assisting the network in the implementation of the Contractor Prequalification process.
  • Understand Environmental, Health and Safety regulatory requirements, as well as Chewy operational safety standards and requirements
  • Be responsible for facilities escalation management, vendor dispatch and tracking, documentation and resolution management for multiple Chewy business units with and without dedicated onsite maintenance personnel, local EHS, Procurement or Asset Protection.
  • Manage Network launch of safety initiatives and programs including the initial communication and implementation.
  • Work closely with Chewy Engineering and Continuous Improvement teams to integrate safety development tools
  • Become the Workers Management SME and share lessons learned with other affected teams.  
  • Establish Contractor Workers Management training requirements for stakeholders at the site and network levels.
  • Establish Contractor Prequalification training requirements for stakeholders at the site and network levels.
  • Establish a check-in/check-out process using Contractor Prequalification data with direct partnership with Asset Protection, EHS, Operations, and Maintenance.
  • Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) the network can use to measure Contractor Prequalification implementation performance at the network and site levels.
  • Manage Chewy’s Contractor Prequalification field safety audits compared to prequalification submissions.
  • Stay attuned to changing regulations and internal EHS performance to change policies when required. 

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
  • Minimum of 10+ years in an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and Engineering related field
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment. Lean Six Sigma, Green Belt preferred
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations specifically 29 CFR 1910
  • Knowledge of Local, State and Federal regulatory agencies and requirements
  • Knowledge of ANSI, ISO, and other consensus standards as they apply to engineering and risk
  • Ability to understand technical drawings and specifications
  • Comprehension and practical application of risk assessments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to understand data tables, metrics, and trending to identify causation and determine corrective actions
  • Strong communication, teamwork, analysis, judgment and customer focus skills
  • Ability to analyze incident reports, new processes, and machinery for potential safety concerns and conduct job hazard and job safety analysis
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
  • Experience leading change in multiple site environments
  • Must be willing to travel up to 40%

  • Master’s degree in occupational health and safety or equivalent, preferred
  • Certifications - Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) preferred
