Our Opportunity

Chewy is seeking a Sr. Program Manager, High Risk Operations (HRO) to support the Chewy Fulfillment Network. The Sr. Program Manager, HRO will be responsible for partnering with the Site Operations team, Engineering team and Continuous Improvement team to manage the Environmental, Health and Safety deliverables required in the FC network. They will be  providing technical leadership for powered industrial truck (PIT) operations, safety engineering, and additional EHS support/oversight for high-risk activities. This role will work cross functionally to develop and manage programs that will standardize Chewy’s risk identification process and to ensure implementation of mitigations throughout the various intervals of design, review of SOPs, equipment maintenance procedures and continuous improvement projects.

 What you'll do:

  • Partner with Engineering, Maintenance, and vendors to ensure safe and efficient design implementations across the FC network
  • Support the development of policies, standards, training and safe operating procedures
  • Understand Health and Safety regulatory requirements as well as Chewy design safety standards and requirements
  • Develop, implement and coordinate design for safety initiatives and tasks beginning with early engineering concepts
  • Manage Network launch of safety initiatives and programs including the initial communication and implementation
  • Work closely with Chewy Engineering and Continuous Improvement teams to integrate safety development tools
  • Independently provide technical guidance on equipment design and safety related issues
  • Identify high risk operations and provide subject matter expertise on the reduction of risk through the application of the hierarchy of controls
  • Work with various teams to review and approve designs of new equipment and modifications to existing equipment
  • Provide input to be able to identify Health & Safety concerns for Team Members interacting with new and/or existing equipment.
  • Evaluate equipment and activities around the FC network against risk assessments and SOPs
  • Evaluate and review drawings and specifications and provide Health & Safety input during development/early design.
  • Research and source technology solutions that apply to the reduction of risk
  • Capture and analyze complex data sets to determine areas of risk reduction related to a variety of operational and behavioral factors.
  • Manage complex projects on time and on budget, tracking ROI and impact

 What you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
  • Masters degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
  • Minimum of 10+ years in an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and Engineering related field
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment. Lean Six Sigma, Green Belt preferred
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations specifically 29 CFR 1910
  • Knowledge of Local, State and Federal regulatory agencies and requirements
  • Knowledge of ANSI, ISO, and other consensus standards as they apply to engineering and risk
  • Ability to understand technical drawings and specifications
  • Comprehension and practical application of risk assessments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to understand data tables, metrics, and trending to identify causation and determine corrective actions
  • Strong communication, teamwork, analysis, judgment and customer focus skills
  • Ability to analyze incident reports, new processes, and machinery for potential safety concerns and conduct job hazard and job safety analysis
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
  • Experience leading change in multiple site environments
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50%

Bonus:

  • Certifications - Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) preferred
  • Licensed Machine Safety Specialist (LMSS) preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability.
  • Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy.
