THE ROLE As a Staff Engineer on the AI Infrastructure team, you will architect the breakthrough platform that decouples infrastructure complexity from AI innovation. You’ll empower data scientists to focus exclusively on model development by rethinking how data is organized and accessed at scale. Collaborating closely with product and systems teams, you will be the technical catalyst in making Pure Storage the definitive foundation for the enterprise AI revolution.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Architect Distributed Systems: Design and ship resilient, high-performance distributed systems that serve as the backbone for large-scale AI workloads and data pipelines.

• Lead Zero-to-One Initiatives: Drive the end-to-end development of new software products from initial concept to enterprise-grade production, setting the standard for engineering excellence across the team.

• Bridge the Gap Between Data & Math: Implement AI-native features—leveraging LLMs and transformer architectures—to optimize how our platform handles complex model training and inference requirements.

• Influence Technical Strategy: Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to translate ambiguous customer challenges into robust technical designs, influencing the long-term roadmap of our AI Data platform.

• Mentor and Scale Excellence: Level up the engineering organization by conducting rigorous design reviews, guiding junior talent, and championing best practices in Python, Go, Rust, or C++.

WHAT YOU BRING

• Proven Systems Craftsmanship: Extensive experience building and shipping high-quality, enterprise-grade software with a focus on reliability, scalability, and performance in production environments.

• AI Implementation Expertise: Deep technical understanding of deploying generative AI models and ML pipelines, including the ability to monitor and optimize model outputs to meet specific product goals.

• Full-Lifecycle Engineering: A track record of taking software from scratch to scale, demonstrating an ability to navigate the complexities of both greenfield development and established systems.

• Polyglot Proficiency: Expert-level coding skills in at least two of the following: Python, Go, Rust, or C++, with the ability to select the right tool for the specific performance or concurrency need.

• Strategic Communication: The ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders, distilling complex infrastructure problems into clear, actionable designs that align with user needs.

• Location: We are primarily an in-office environment and therefore, you will be expected to work from the Santa Clara, CA office in compliance with Pure’s policies, unless you are on PTO, or work travel, or other approved leave.

Salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location. For positions open to candidates in multiple geographical locations, the base salary range is reflective of the labor market across the applicable locations. 

This role may be eligible for incentive pay and/or equity.
