SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER (STARSHIP QUALITY)   

Our software team is part of the Starship Quality organization, which is responsible for guiding and implementing the Starship program’s quality standards as it matures from a research & development program to a world-class human space flight program. 

Our small, focused software team is responsible for aligning emerging and legacy ERP software to enforce increased standards of safety and reliability in the Starship program. Scope includes developing new software and data reporting solutions that drive the implementation of improved quality processes throughout the build and launch of Starship vehicles. We work closely with Build and Flight Reliability Engineers to identify critical project scope and fully own software design, implementation, and validation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Significantly contributes to software design for projects across the team, driving towards well-architected and performant solutions that seek to minimize complexity.
  • Translates ambiguous and broadly scoped problem statements into clearly defined software deliverables. Implements deliverables efficiently and reliably
  • Builds expertise in SpaceX’s Quality Processes supported by the team’s software and advocates for improvements to reduce escapes and operate more effectively.
  • Routinely technically trains and supports peers on team, influences team-wide direction.
  • Owns all aspects of software engineering and product development. 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or a science discipline and 4+ years of professional experience in software development; or 6+ years of professional experience in software development in lieu of a degree 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years programming experience in C#.NET, Java, python, or similar language 
  • 3+ years of rigorous experience building full stack applications
  • Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Front-end experience in Angular, React, or similar JavaScript framework
  • Database experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar database technologies
  • Experience working with in-stream data processing using Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, or similar technologies
  • Deep understanding of testing, continuous integration, build, deployment & monitoring
  • Expertise in profiling and improving application performance 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • You may be asked to work extended hours/weekends dependent on launch cadence
