As a Principal Engineer within the Developer Experience group, you will play a crucial role in driving technical excellence and innovation within the organization. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining complex systems. Your expertise will be essential in solving challenging technical problems and contributing to the overall success of the team and company.

Our Developer Experience group has a mission to drive efficiencies in engineering and protect the availability of the Personio application. We are passionate about giving our product development engineers the most efficient, safe, and easy tools, processes and frameworks to get their code into the hands of customers. 

 Responsibilities:

• Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineers while participating in interviewing/hiring new talent.
• Lead research, engineering, and innovation to improve developer experience. 
• Write high-quality, maintainable code in accordance with coding standards and best practices. 
• Analyze complex technical problems and propose innovative solutions. 
• Devise new DevOps practices to address key problems and ensuring we are ready to scale 10x. 
• Create new metrics to represent developer experience, beyond our Lead Time to Production and Deployment Frequency metrics. 
• Collaborate with various engineering teams on related tech projects.

How you’ll go about it: 

• Broad experience in modern cloud based SaaS ecosystem.
• Experience designing and building to scale software to handle 10x load increases and 100x peak traffic spikesInfluencing and strengthening team culture while identifying areas for improvement. 
• Demonstrate technical excellence through hands-on involvement in projects and continuous learning.
• Maintain open and clear communication and foster a collaborative work environment with team members, stakeholders, and management. 
• Continuously drive technical innovation and improvements across multiple teams.
• Hands-on coding experience. 
• “Platform as a product” mindset and strategic thinking about the product roadmap.

What you need to succeed

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science or a related field. 
• 10+ yrs of experience in software engineering or a relevant technical role; building and designing scalable applications in a distributed system. 
• Strong proficiency in programming languages and frameworks. 
• Deep understanding in DevOps tools and technologies such as AWS (CDK, ECS, Fargate etc.), Sentry, DataDog, Docker, Gitlab CI, K8S, Flagger, Linkerd, as well as deployment automation (CI/CD pipelines, feature flags, blue/green and canary deployments).

$235,000/year to $265,000/year + equity + benefitsThe national salary range listed in the job posting reflects the new hire salary range across levels and U.S. locations that would be applicable to the position. Final salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s final level and final location.
