The Community You Will Join:

We’re developing groundbreaking tools to facilitate connections and hosting experiences on Airbnb. Our team specializes in co-hosting, focusing on cooperative hosting approaches. We provide host-facing tools to help multiple people collaborate with each other in the whole hosting journey. The tool suite includes access control, messaging, payout for host-facing products. The team collaborates with PM, design, content, legal partners and closely works with engineering teams worldwide. You will play a pivotal role in enhancing our foundations and enriching the host-facing collaborative tools.

The Difference You Will Make:

As a Co-Hosting Foundation Staff Engineer, you will lead the development and refinement of major subsystems powering the co-hosting systems. Responsibilities include creating and refining product features, ensuring seamless day-to-day operations, identifying patterns for streamlined development, and presenting technical and product insights to stakeholders. At the staff backend level, you’ll set a technical vision, delivering flexible, efficient, and scalable solutions aligning with business needs.

A Typical Day: 

Designing Future States: Shape our technical systems’ future state by aligning high-level product goals with a deep understanding of existing systems, guiding strategic technical and product decisions for both short and long terms.Leadership in Action: Lead engineers across teams in crafting technical solutions, engaging in the development of product and UX requirements, and fostering a culture of technical excellence. Collaboration Champion: Collaborate with various teams—product, engineering, data science, and data engineering—to contribute to the development of efficient solutions and uphold technical quality.

Your Expertise:

  • Proven Experience: A track record of 9+ years in the software development industry within a fast-paced tech environment.
  • Backend Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise and be hands-on in backend systems within large-scale service-oriented architectures.
  • Strategic Decision-Making: Proven ability to exercise sound judgment in making trade-offs to balance short-term business needs with long-term technical quality.
  • End-to-End Understanding: Experience with an end-to-end mentality, transcending team boundaries to find globally optimal solutions.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent communication skills with a history of collaborating effectively within and across engineering teams.
  • Quality Advocacy: Passionate about efficiency, availability, system quality, and user experience, demonstrated through prior projects.
  • Architectural Excellence: Experience in architectural patterns of high-scale distributed products/services, such as well-designed APIs, data pipelines, and efficient algorithms.
  • Collaborative Background: A track record of successfully working collaboratively in cross-functional teams with design, product, and data science partners.

Preferred:

  • Experience of access control for multi-user systems.
  • Be curious about product problems and have an open mind to dive into new domains eg: gen-AI.
  • Be enthusiastic about product development and be emphatic to users’ experiences.

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.  

Pay Range$204,000—$254,000 USD
