The Opportunity:

We are searching for a passionate and innovative Staff Engineer with a focus on Database Infrastructure Management to join our team. Our Staff Engineer will lead the infrastructure strategy for our global database operations.

Your Mission:

  • Lead cross-discipline database infrastructure initiatives that affect a wide range of teams
  • Advise teams on optimal usage of available database systems so that applications perform at cloud scale
  • Enable teams to securely self-service databases by defining and rolling out database policies and solutions
  • Ensure database-related High Availability and Disaster Recovery objectives are met across the organization
  • Define and rollout prescribed database solutions and policies
  • Extend and create tooling to automatically rightsize databases according to capacity requirements and performance demands
  • Contribute to the tech strategy in alignment with commercetools' overall growth strategy

What you need to succeed:

  • Proven experience operating MongoDB infrastructure, in a lead or senior role
  • Ability to collaborate with third party vendors to address organizational needs
  • Track record of developing deeply technical strategies to meet business objectives
  • Insight into industry-leading database fleet management strategies
  • Leadership skills grown from guiding storage infrastructure teams
  • Communication skills to align your peers and management on optimal solutions
  • Enthusiasm for writing and sharing information: RFCs, meeting summaries, ideas, plans, etc.
  • Proficient writing software in at least one strongly typed language

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Postgres, ElasticSearch, Redis, or other database solutions
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code: Terraform and Ansible
  • Experience with Cloud and managed Database Providers: AWS, GCP, Azure, MongoDB Atlas
