The MongoDB Replicated Storage Services Team is hiring a staff engineer focused on tuning and improving the performance of the replication and storage layers. The replicated storage subsystem sits at the heart of the database, and the team is working to build a performant transaction processing engine to power our customers' many use cases.

This role can be based out of one of our North American offices, or remotely in North America.

Candidate Profile
  • 8+ years of experience in measuring, tuning and improving the performance of systems software
  • Experience using performance analysis tools, like Linux perf, callgrind, cachegrind, VTune or similar
  • Hands-on experience building performance-sensitive software
  • Solid computer science fundamentals, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture
  • Experience with large backend/compiled code bases, preferably in C++, C or Rust
  • B.Sc. in Computer Science or similar field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Interest in the theory and practice of high availability systems and storage engines. Hands-on experience or M.Sc./Ph.D in the domain is a plus
Position Expectations
  • Understand and improve the performance of the MongoDB replicated storage engine
  • Contribute high quality C++ code and give and solicit feedback in code reviews
  • Identify, design, implement, test, and support new features related to storage and replication performance and robustness, as well as contribute to reviewing our architecture to ensure future performance scalability
  • Work constructively with peers to deliver excellent technical solutions
Success Measures
  • In three months you’ll have contributed to the development of a project slated for the next major version and investigated performance issues independently
  • In six months, you’ll have taken on code review responsibilities and are independently contributing to meaningful performance improvements
  • In twelve months, you’re contributing to the design of major architectural improvements that drive forward better performance of the replication and storage layers of the database
