The ML Data team enables rapid development of ML features and training/evaluation datasets at scale. We support hundreds of ML engineers and dozens of applications across Pinterest, including recommendations, ads, visual search, growth/notifications, trust and safety as well as content and user understanding.

The team provides:

  • A centralized feature store that manages and distributes ML features across batch, streaming and real time applications.
  • Training/evaluation dataset store responsible for managing petabyte scale training / evaluation datasets.
  • Large scale data processing solutions and libraries for feature backfilling and last mile data processing.
  • The team utilizes many open-source projects including Spark, Parquet, Flink, Ray, Iceberg, Airflow, Finagle and Thrift, as well as systems built in-house to support large scale requirements. 

    What you’ll do:

    • Lead the technical strategy and development of large-scale machine learning data management systems over 12 months horizon. 
    • Work with internal customers, ML engineers and data scientists to solve development velocity pain points in the ML data domain, and unlock innovations.
    • Proactively identify and address technical dependencies by collaborating with internal partner teams as well as the open-source community. 
    • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers in the ML Data team.

    What we’re looking for:

    • Deep expertise in big-data processing, storage and serving technologies (e.g. Spark, Parquet, Flink, Ray, Finagle)
    • Strong empathy for our customers. Someone who finds joy from helping our customers solve their problems. 
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Somebody who can share knowledge and vision within the ML Data team, as well as cross functionally. 
    • Coder: A strong software engineer who can lead and mentor through their own code and design choices.

Final salary is based on a number of factors including location, travel, relevant prior experience, or particular skills and expertise.
