Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Principal or Senior Staff Software Engineer with a strong background in full-stack web development, specializing in NodeJS, React, TypeScript, and frameworks such as Express. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing and developing robust, scalable, and secure web applications, leveraging your deep expertise in both front-end and back-end technologies. You will help lead the architecture and implementation of new features, optimize performance, and ensure code quality through thorough testing and best practices in software development. Your role involves actively and consistently engaging in hands-on coding to drive projects to completion. You will mentor other software engineers, foster a collaborative team environment, and contribute to the overall technical direction of the projects. Success in this role will be measured by your ability to deliver high-quality software on time, lead major initiatives, and continuously improve the development processes and technical standards within the team. This position requires a proactive problem-solver with excellent communication skills and a commitment to staying current with industry trends and technologies. 

This role demands a seasoned professional who can establish credibility quickly and easily in related technical areas, demonstrating their ability to influence and guide the team effectively. Moreover, they should leverage their technical credibility to obtain consensus on different topics within the team, fostering collaboration and ensuring that technical decisions are well-informed and supported by team members. 

Candidate Profile

The qualified candidate for this role should possess the following qualifications:

  • Excellent English communication skills (verbal, and written)
  • Minimum 9 years of experience architecting and developing full-stack web applications, with a minimum of 2 years as a staff software engineer on a software development team
  • Demonstrable mastery of NodeJS and TypeScript, with in-depth knowledge of React, and libraries/frameworks such as Express or NextJS
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API development using NodeJS and related technologies and libraries
  • In-depth understanding of software development concepts such as scalability, observability, software design patterns, performance optimization, and web application security principles and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to actively engage in coding and software development tasks, leading by example and staying current with the latest development practices
  • Deep knowledge and hands-on expertise with continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines. Familiarity with tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, CircleCI, and others
  • Proficiency in unit testing, and good working knowledge of integration testing, and end-to-end testing using frameworks like Jest, Mocha, Playwright, or similar
  • Working knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible)
  • Proven track record of leading and mentoring other team members, leading technical discussions for resolving conflicts, and obtaining alignment on technical decisions
Nice to haves
  • Hands-on experience with leveraging GenAI for developer productivity
  • Hands-on experience with implementing GenAI features in web apps
  • Experience with developer productivity concepts and frameworks such as DORA, SPACE, and DevEx
Success Measures  First 3 Months:
  • Fully understand the team’s tech stack, tools, and processes
  • Establish strong working relationships with team members and key stakeholders
  • Participate actively in code reviews and contribute to the team’s coding standards
  • Identify and document any immediate areas for process improvements
 First 6 Months:
  • Lead the development of a mid-sized project from planning to deployment
  • Mentor junior engineers and facilitate knowledge sharing within the team
  • Contribute to architectural discussions and decisions
 First 9 Months:
  • Lead multiple projects or significant features, ensuring high-quality delivery
  • Implement at least one major process improvement that enhances team productivity
  • Facilitate cross-functional team collaborations to ensure alignment and synergy
 First 12 Months:
  • Drive strategic initiatives that align with the team’s long-term goals
  • Innovate and implement solutions that significantly improve product performance or scalability
  • Be recognized as one of the go-to technical experts and trusted advisors within the organization
