The Role

Reporting directly to the VP of Operations and Experience, this dynamic new role offers the opportunity to shape the strategic direction and operational excellence of Google DeepMind. The ideal candidate will be a trusted advisor to the VP, ensuring both effective alignment of the organisation’s operations and seamless integration within the company.

Key responsibilities:

  • Critical Thinking and Execution: Work collaboratively with the VP to translate high-level strategic goals into actionable plans, from conception to delivery, getting results across short, medium, and long-term time horizons by influencing throughout the organisation
  • Portfolio Management: Coordinate the VP's portfolio of key projects and initiatives. Actively prioritise, manage risks, and find opportunities to enhance collaboration and efficiency.
  • Proactive Problem Solving: Proactively identify and address potential roadblocks. Propose solutions and call out critical issues to the VP for timely decision-making.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build strong partnerships with key collaborators throughout Google DeepMind, creating trust and facilitating cross-functional collaboration. Foster relationships across Alphabet and Google to identify synergy opportunities.
  • Organisational Representative: Represent the VP's perspective and priorities in executive forums, effectively communicating key updates and decisions.
  • Cultural Champion: Promote a culture of excellence within Google DeepMind. Model responsible leadership, build connections across the wider Google ecosystem, and champion the organisation's strategic objectives.
  • Google DeepMind Advocate: Partner with the COO and CEO offices to advocate for Google DeepMind's priorities and smoothly execute the company's long-term vision.
About You

To set you up for success in this role at, we look for the following skills and experience:

  • Extensive experience directly running complex portfolios within AI technology or similarly fast-paced, technical environments. You have demonstrable success in delivering multiple projects simultaneously, on time, and within budget.
  • You have experience building trusted relationships with C-suite leaders, working in a 1:1 capacity. Through collaboration, you can influence decision-making processes and shape strategic direction through data-driven insights and compelling communication.
  • Ability to create something from nothing; you effectively navigate ambiguity, demonstrating high levels of critical thinking and proactivity in finding solutions.
  • Proven track record seeking out opportunities to work on AI projects and programmes. You are genuinely passionate about AI’s potential and eager to make a lasting impact at Google DeepMind.
  • You possess a high degree of resilience, you seek out feedback and strive for continuous improvement. With confidence, you ask questions, make suggestions, and kindly challenge when needed.
  • Awareness and a firm comprehension of the Google DeepMind organisation, understanding how to get things done and an ability to proactively connect dots to further enable progress.
  • Trustworthy, discreet and impartial, with a high level of integrity and excellent sense of judgement
  • Deep knowledge of the external technology landscape, with proven experience grounding recommendations on these insights and data
  • Experience working in AI
  • Experience working in a founder led and scaling organisation.
  • A degree in computer Science or Machine Learning (or equivalent)
  • A background in Strategy & operations or engineering is advantageous.
