As a Strategy & Operations Principal within the Office of the CXO (Chief Experience Officer), you will be at the heart of our internal operational engine. You will be instrumental in managing critical resources and driving strategic alignment across various Google DeepMind (GDM) Units. Your focus will be on ensuring that our operational framework supports our strategic objectives, enabling our teams to do their best work. This role requires a blend of analytical rigor, strategic thinking, and strong executional capabilities.

The Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resource Management:
  • Oversee and manage operational expenditure (opex) for the Office of the CXO and support related processes across GDM Units.
  • Lead headcount planning, tracking, and allocation processes, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and budget.
  • Develop and implement frameworks for efficient resource utilization and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Provide regular reporting and insights on resource allocation and burn rates to leadership.
  • Strategic Planning & Alignment:
  • Support the annual and quarterly OKR (Objectives and Key Results) setting process for the Office of the CXO and facilitate alignment with broader GDM Unit OKRs.
  • Track progress against OKRs, identify potential roadblocks, and proactively recommend solutions.
  • Facilitate cross-functional alignment on key strategic initiatives, ensuring clear communication and shared understanding of goals.
  • Contribute to the development of long-term operational strategies that support the evolving needs of Google DeepMind.
  • Stakeholder Management:
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across various GDM Units, including Finance, HR, and Program Management.
  • Act as a key point of contact for operational queries and initiatives related to the Office of the CXO.
About You

In order to set you up for success as a Strategy and Operations Principal at Google DeepMind,  we look for the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in a strategy, operations, finance, or program management role.
  • Experience with resource management, including budget (opex) and headcount planning.
  • Experience with strategic planning processes, such as OKR development and tracking.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to work with data to drive insights and decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

In addition, the following would be an advantage:

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic technology or research environment.
  • Familiarity with Google's internal tools and processes for finance and headcount management.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a strong sense of ownership and a bias for action.
  • Experience in a Chief of Staff or similar operational role supporting senior leadership.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to London.
