SUPERVISOR, FACILITIES & HIGH POWER

SpaceX is preparing for an incredible launch cadence out of multiple launch complexes and process more payloads than ever. Existing and future SpaceX facilities are dynamic, adapting to changing requirements. This role is responsible for leading a team of skilled individuals in the maintenance and renovation of the launch site’s production areas and offices.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Lead, coordinate, and supervise the team responsible for facilities operations at the SpaceX Vandenberg Launch Facilities; dedicated to ensuring zero unplanned interruption in services to the employees and customers. The launch facility consists of launch pads, landing pads, payload processing facilities, launch control centers, Falcon refurbishment facility, data centers, a variety of shops, and engineering/administrative office buildings
  • Supervise multiple crafts and contractors to coordinate and execute the maintenance, repair, and installation of all launch and mission support related buildings, HVAC equipment, high-power electrical systems, fire protection, water and plumbing infrastructure, and grounds
  • Maintain a safe and effective work environment by training the team on new and existing policies and procedures as well as new skills or trades
  • Supervise and provide daily support to the facilities team: 
    • Assess candidates and provide recommendations in the hiring process
    • Plan and schedule work, assign work, and assess completed work
    • Visualize future impacts and needs
    • Lead and motivate employees to get tasks done on a deadline-basis
    • Ensure employees have the training, tools and materials they need to carry out their duties
    • Monitor and approve employee time keeping records
    • Monitor productivity and actions of team members, providing guidance and corrections when needed
    • Communicate how performance will be measured and provide collaborative direction to team members; recommend performance standards and ratings
    • Ensure quality and quantity of work by checking and inspecting jobs while ensuring that safety procedures are being followed
    • Provide leadership by setting a positive example and being a role model
    • Gather and listen to input from everyone, then decide on a best path forward according to our strategic initiatives
  • Oversee installation, inspections, repairs, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance of building systems including mechanical, electrical, fire/life safety, plumbing, and waste management
  • Track facilities service requests with applicable systems and complete requests within established timelines and quality specifications
  • Ensure all preventive and predictive maintenance is completed on vital launch support equipment like emergency generators, UPS systems, electrical power distribution centers, and Mechanical equipment
  • Manage and oversee equipment inventory and purchasing 
  • Provide/lead on-call 24x7 support at all times including critical launch-related activities 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, heavy equipment, grounds maintenance, plumbing or industrial maintenance 
  • 1+ years of professional experience in a leadership position

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Knowledge and understanding of building management and automated facilities monitoring systems and processes including: HVAC systems, fluid plumbing systems, high-power electrical systems, telecommunications infrastructure, fire suppression systems, generators, above and underground fuel storage systems, and other facility and grounds requirements
  • Must be organized and self-driven capable of working independently with little direction 
  • Experience working with military and government agencies 
  • Demonstrable knowledge and/or understanding of codes, rules, regulations, and standards of electrical and/or Mechanical equipment 
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and reports 
  • Experience with testing, calibrating, diagnosing, and repairing various devices 
  • Ability to identify and implement efficient paths of action to finish the assigned work 
  • Understanding of job-related hazards in an industrial or manufacturing environment 
  • Demonstrate the ability to independently and effectively manage projects in an extremely fast-paced and changing environment; keep projects on time, deal with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and work with a diverse array of contacts 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to provide 24/7 on-call support in emergency situations 
  • Must be willing and able to work weekends and non-standard work-week hours 
  • Must be comfortable working in a high-stress environment balancing several projects at any given time, and the flexibility to adjust for abrupt changes in strategic direction. 
  • Ability to pass Space Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range: Supervisor: $105,000.00 - $135,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
