That's why we need diverse people from all abilities, gender identities, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, life experiences and backgrounds to join us.

Teamworking for the planet

Everything we do here spins around Plan Zero. So, naturally, the team you’ll be joining plays a gigantic role in making that happen. Here’s how:

OVO’s vision is to deliver clean, affordable energy for everyone, powered by technology. We started out as a retail energy company with a belief that we could do energy better through fairer pricing, simplicity and unrivalled customer service. As we evolved it became clear that OVO could bring even more value to its customers, by supporting them to decarbonise their homes. We’re building a zero carbon community – and bringing everyone the green energy, technology and guidance they need to make change happen. And, to lead by example, we’re committed to becoming a net zero carbon business by 2035.

This role in a nutshell:

We’re looking for an analyst that’s savvy with environmental and non-financial sustainability data, quick to learn and keen to engage our company on the journey to net zero carbon.  Whilst some experience is a bonus, you don’t need to be an expert - we’ll train you up on how to do carbon footprinting and sustainability data reporting.

Your key outcomes will be:

  • Supporting the reporting of environmental performance data including greenhouse gas emissions, energy, water and waste. This includes setting up and maintaining data collection, consolidation, validation and analysis processes.
  • Coordinating Plan Zero data reporting. Building relationships with internal stakeholders to understand performance changes for non-financial data reporting.
  • Assisting with reporting to third parties, including:
    • Compliance reporting (e.g. SECR and ESOS);
    • Voluntary initiative reporting (e.g. EV100, EP100, SBTi, CDP and TCFD etc.); and
    • Investor ESG reporting.
  • Supporting the external assurance of carbon footprint data.
  • Administering and maintaining OVO’s carbon accounting software system and supporting the sustainability team with data extraction and analysis key ESG metrics.
  • Supporting the annual preparation of OVO’s Modern Slavery statement and help to coordinate other policy updates.
  • Horizon scanning and researching the latest trends, ensuring OVO’s policies remain progressive and reflective of market best practice.
  • Supporting the brand team with copy reviews, ensuring green claims are backed up and accurate.
  • Supporting the delivery of OVO’s annual Plan Zero sustainability report.
  • Supporting internal engagement activities on Plan Zero including external speakers, office activities and online news stories.
  • Supporting wider Sustainability team initiatives such as research and analysis, and supporting team operations.
  • Helping to build the business case for sustainability-related projects and initiatives including assessing the costs and benefits of different options and making recommendations.

You’ll be a successful Sustainability Analyst here at OVO if you have…

  • Experience working with sustainability data and reporting frameworks is preferred but not essential
  • We’re a small but mighty central Sustainability team, so you’ll be great at teamwork. You’ll have the experience and confidence to independently lead and deliver the workstreams you own, and the intuition to know when to call out risks or issues.
  • You’ll be a people person - with the ability to communicate and build networks with a variety of internal stakeholders at both operational and strategic levels. You can influence decision making effectively, and empower and inspire others to take action.
  • Lastly, you’ll be no stranger to a fast-growth organisation like OVO, accustomed to agile culture and operating in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements:

  • A passion for all things sustainability and data related.
  • An understanding of different types of environmental performance data (e.g. Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions, energy, water, waste etc.) built up through some form of academic or professional training or entry-level work experience.
  • Some knowledge of sustainability reporting standards and frameworks (e.g. GHG Protocol and CDP).
  • Strong numerical, data, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Experience of working with data analysis tools, such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to analyse large data sets and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • A keen eye for detail and ability to produce high quality deliverables.
  • A fast learner who thrives in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to navigate change and uncertainty.
  • Ability to influence and engage stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate with others and work with a high degree of autonomy.

Beneficial:

  • Sustainability qualifications would be a bonus but are not crucial.
  • Experience of working with specialist sustainability reporting software tools such as Enablon.
