About The Role:

As a SNOC (Systems & Network Operations Center) Engineer, India - you will be responsible for working closely with our Operations team as well as IT and key members across our Business and Engineering teams to properly gauge warnings, push a fix or escalate the issue to the right team for a rapid response. The ideal SNOC Engineer is someone who possesses a solid understanding of systems, network and hardware fundamentals and can quickly learn and get up to speed on the operations behind complex global systems.

Index’s scale spans the globe, our transactions happen 24x7 in our global data centers, and every second that passes millions of requests are evaluated across our exchange. In order to achieve our mission, global efficiency and reliability are absolutely key, as every millisecond quite literally counts in our business.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Technical Expertise: networking fundamentals, linux command line skills and a firm grasp of a wide range of different technical tools.
  • Communication: Able to communicate clearly and effectively throughout the course of daily tasks.
  • Documentation: Expected to write clear and concise documentation.
  • Curiosity: things can (and will) break for a million different reasons; your curiosity will help drive you to identify and fix the things that go wrong.
  • Alertness: we can never predict when things will go wrong so it is your job to be vigilant and prepared to respond when they do; you must be ready to reach out, ask questions and sound the alarm when necessary.
  • Adaptability: the SNOC team provides 24/7/365 coverage. We need Engineers who can adapt to this schedule, on a rotating basis. This would include evenings and weekends, as well as holidays, while maintaining the standard number of working hours within the workweek.
  • Analytical Thinking: your role is to monitor and log activity, analyze to understand the severity of a given problem and then collaborate with other departments while responding to issues in order to maintain technical defense.

Here’s What You’ll be Doing:

  • Build and maintain alerts, dashboards, and automations.
  • Continuously monitor internal metrics, including system performance, network traffic, and resource utilization in addition to other KPIs for different components within our infrastructure.
  • Respond to alerts within our established SLOs and assist in incident triage, ensuring that the right teams are engaged to address issues promptly.
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and build on existing tooling to advance networking performance visibility.
  • Detect and troubleshoot incidents in a timely manner and coordinate and orchestrate production incident communications and escalations.
  • Create and maintain runbooks and technical documentation, in addition to being familiar with internal and external escalation pathways.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical incidents by following documented procedures and using available resources.

Here's What You Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree/diploma in Computer Science, Networking, or IT.
  • 1-2 years experience in previous roles in one or more of the following roles:
    • Network Operations Centre Analyst/Technician/Engineer
    • DevOps Engineer
    • IT/Helpdesk Analyst/Technician/Engineer
    • Linux System Administrator
    • Network Analyst/Technician/Engineer
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in Linux command line
  • Experience with monitoring tools like:
    • Grafana
    • Prometheus
    • ELK
    • TICK
    • Nagios
    • Zabbix
  • Problem solving skills coupled with well-developed networking knowledge and an inherent interest in complex systems are all key traits to bring to this role
